Medical research's "gold standard", the randomized control study, often only proves what the researchers hoped - mostly because the study design, the questions, the variables.... are biased. The push to get published drives the search for "surprising" conclusions, most of which are later disproved, or even reversed. Don't assume that your doctor or the NEJM have all the answers or that their recommendations are fool-proof. Listen to your body, ask questions, be a critical consumer of medical products and services. Because the science often isn't as objective or conclusive as we are led to believe.
