Why just kids??? Grown-ups too! Grown-up faculty in particular. PERFECTIONISM: I would call it the single biggest problem in college teaching. Faculty need help in getting over the perfectionism that got them their jobs to begin with...
And I say that as a recovering perfectionist.
Consider this wonderful piece of advice from the article:
View failure more broadly. Try to help kids see mistakes “as an opportunity to improve performance, or even to learn that a particular activity is not for you,” Dr. Antony said. “Sure, there are some cases when you make a mistake and there are negative consequences, but there are also a lot of cases in which scary, worrisome predictions may not come true.”

Perfectionism can lead to depression and subsequent problems. We all strive for perfection but some kids just overdo it.
