I'm really enjoying this approach to the Reading Guides for class! I'm through Week 5 and moving right along... should have all the guides done by August 1 when I have to start figuring out how to lead students through the new web world of these classes. I hope the overall improvements (and gosh, these are such good improvements... now I'm feeling kind of mortified about my old course websites, even though ten years ago I was so proud of them, ha ha) will compensate for what are bound to be the little bumps along the way as I get all this new stuff squared away. Unlike the websites, this blog-based approach to content development is going to allow me to be so much more responsible to those bumps and gaps.

- Wait, there's a monkey king in the Ramayana?Jul 16, 2014
- Rama's whole army is monkeys ("vanaras" but yeah, monkeys) and bears. Scholars are pretty sure there is some kind of connection between Hanuman and the monkey king of Chinese legend who goes on that "journey to the west," but it's lost in the distance of time. Hanuman is a fabulous character; I think I can safely say that all my students like Hanuman!Jul 16, 2014
