My husband and I used to have a lot of boring weekends. He would golf, I would buy orchids; we'd see a lot of movies. I've always liked hula and polynesian music so when my friend introduced me to the school I was very excited but also a little nervous. After coming back from 20 years of chronic health issues I was a full-figured gal without a lot of strength. I called to find out if I would be welcome and was told, "We accept dancers of all shapes, sizes, and ages. We have dancers from 7 to 70." So, I went. At first it was really strange (but great) to feel like you were at a family reunion where everyone wanted to hug you and make you feel welcome. That's the spirit of aloha and that's becoming part of an ohana (a family). Almost two years later my husband and I are no longer bored. I dance at gourd festivals, ukulele meet-ups, and other gigs; attend competitions, and have found I like to host potlucks for just about any reason. The hugs? I live for them now! I thought I was going to get to wear some cool costumes and dance. I got that, yes. But I also got loyal friends, people who care, and lots to do. Plus, hula is about confidence, beauty, character, and faith. You can't be a part of it without realizing what a beautiful human being you are. I can only say thank you because our teacher, Kumu Hilary Silva, gives us all a gift by putting her energy into our school. The name is perfect - "Hula School of Majestic Love that Clings to the Heart". So, come to dance and you'll stay for a lot more!

When people finally realize that they don't serve possum (I keep getting asked every time I rave about this place) - the sign DOES say 'Southern Eatin' & Drinkin' folks - you won't be able to get a seat here. Been twice in one week and can honestly say we have NEVER had such attentive and friendly service anywhere else, and we frequently dine out so have a lot to compare to. We've now sampled two appetizers, two desserts, and four different entrees/sandwiches, and it is all awesome-tastic. Big portions, amazing choices (sweet tea glazed duck, reuben hush puppies, buffalo chicken grilled cheese) and the best corn bread (with corn, really) and country fried steak we've ever tasted. Please, try out this restaurant. It is fantastic, laid back, and delicious!
