Passing this along...

Many of you have heard that the State Historical Society of Iowa is facing drastic budget cuts that could compromise access to the state’s historical record. For now, our colleagues in Iowa have suggested we sign and promote an online petition being circulated by University of Iowa Professor Tyler Priest:

Hi friends -- please consider signing my petition in support of restoring funding to the State Historical Society of Iowa libraries and archives.  This situation is dire.  Click on link below.  Please circulate and post to social media as widely as possible.  We need to swamp the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs with our collective voice of support.

Wisdom Wednesday - Getting Over Source Snobbery
I am eating my words. I am noshing on them like they are an
incredible delicacy. I had been a source snob (a nod to Dr. Thomas Jones for providing me with that phrase) ever since I started my own "do-over" about three years ago. I refused to acknowledge any...

Veterans really do come in all different shapes and sizes...
As family historians and genealogists, I think we all look to those who have served in the military as guides for our research. So often, the records provided through military service are loaded with little genealogical gems ...

+Tony Proctor would you be kind enough to direct me to the conversation about hierarchical sources, etc that you tagged me in? I have a shiny new laptop and I'm in omigosh-I-can't-find-anything-and-I pushed-the-wrong-button-and-now-my-notifications-are-gone world. sighs

Seeking advice from FTM2014 users (+Russ Worthington ?) just got new laptop with Windows 8. Downloaded, from original email link, FTM2014. I can't get it to start. I double checked; the download is fine (same exact files as on my non-8 computer). I seem to remember a thread about this, but I couldn't find it this morning. Help!! And, thanks!!! :-)

For any installer that doesn't seem to work, try "Run as Administrator". Should not have to do that, but often solves the problem. Well, the sympton ;-)

Please contact the County Councilors (see below) expressing your concern over these records! The records date from the 12th Century and need the stewardship of a Professional Archivist trained in their care, not a Records Manager who does not have the skills to work with such delicate history. They need financial support. Please Share
