I was down at the CDC on business and wanted to find a warm, quaint place with some character while in Atlanta town. Man was I glad to find La Tavola. It's like, the fancy place you can go with your sleeves rolled up - classy but down-to-earth and not at all pretentious. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. If it's nice, sit out back! I ate some sort of boar meat pasta dish and loved it; and when I say "ate," I of course mean smeared it all over my chest. Cool little part of town too.

We had the mushroom ragu and the veal. The food was excellent and came out quickly. I found our waitress to be a little pushy about getting appetizers or more drinks, but she was quite friendly and knowledgable about the menu. I would definitely go back!

Good food, excellent service. Their pastry selection is wider then the food choice, weird. But I have to admit their Bellini's are to die for.

All and all the food was very good. I really enjoyed the Calamari. The Orecchiette was outstanding-pure Italian comfort food. One reviewer claimed the portion size was tiny-totally disagree. Especially if you choose to dine like an Italian-have a drink, relax, savor the moment, eat some bread, perhaps an antipasti, then it is almost more than enough. The wine choice, recommended by Jeff. was perfect. Our server was very attentive and engaging. However, when we called to inform the restaurant we would be late we encountered a recording. Hubby left a message. When we arrived, and informed the hostess that no one answered the phone. She snapped back that that was not true, thus insinuating we lied. Apparently, she doesnt't understand the motto, "the customer is always right". She definitely needs to learn some positive customer service skills as she is the first one you encounter when you arrive-no smiles/no apology/no personality. She placed us in a poor location which could have been because they were super busy or retribution for daring to challenge her. Don't know. Other than an unprofessional hostess, it was a pleasant experience, and we would go back.
