Spotlight Hole of the Day: Wolf #15

This iconic Pete Dye creation, the "island green,"  is simply one-of-a-kind.  Not to mention having this hole in the middle of the Southern Nevada desert....breathtaking!  While our version's green is double the size of the original Sawgrass hole, the challenge is still there.  This large 2 tiered green demands a precise shot and the right club selection.  With 5 sets of tees, all skill levels can experience and be challenged by this beauty.

Our Spotlight Hole of the Day: Sun Mountain Hole #6.

This Par 4 is a relatively straightforward hole. However, at first glance, it has Pete Dye written all over it. The left side of this hole is guarded with his signature railroad tie bunkers, so keeping your tee shot on the right side is a must. More bunkers guard the whole left side of the green. It can be easy scoring hole but it can also be Dye-abolical if you miss your shots in the wrong places. Another terrific Pete Dye design!

Did you know.....

The second of our trio of courses to open was Sun Mountain. Opened in 1996, this Pete Dye designed course is a staff and local favorite. Considered the "tamer" of the 3 courses, don't let that fool you. This course boasts narrower fairways, the most bunkers out of the 3 courses, fast rolling greens and some of the most scenic views on the property. Some of its accolades include 4 1/2 stars by +Golf Digest a Top 15 course in Nevada by +Golf Magazine  & +Golfweek Magazine  and the #2 ranked course in Las Vegas on +Golf Advisor.

If you haven't played this course, you're missing out!

The positive reviews keep coming in!

"I played the Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort (Wolf) on Tuesday, June 15, 2015. Tee time was 8:30am. The customer service from the Bag Drop, Pro Shop, Snack Bar, and starter was excellent. Any questions was answer with a smile. The course was design by Pete Dye, so it was challenging. As long as you were not too aggressive, you should score good. Each hole present a difference set of challenges, and they are beautiful. Adequate supply of water is available every three holes, and the Cart girl makes adequate rounds throughout the golf round. At the end of your round, your clubs are cleaned and stage at Bag Drop fro pickup. This is an awesome place to place golf."

Resting in the undisturbed beauty of the Southern Nevada desert at the base of the picturesque Spring Mountains lies a golf experience like no other.  Just 25 minutes northwest of the world famous Las Vegas Strip, this international golf destination is an ideal and welcomed escape from the city's constant noise and urban development.  Serving up the trio of magnificent, championship golf courses, Snow Mountain, Sun Mountain and the Wolf intertwine nature's indigenous life with the edge of the world.  Sculpted by world-class architect Pete Dye, these courses are his only pure designs in Nevada.

Played the Wolf course. This complex is everything golf should be. Not terribly high priced, but absolutely pristine conditions. A little ways off the strip, but that's what makes it so special. Nothing but golf course, desert, and mountains. No planes flying overhead, not even road-noise interrupts your experience. Although I only played 1 of their 3 tracks, this is a MUST PLAY for golfers who care more about the golf product than the glamour of the strip. The Wolf course, itself was magnificent. I played the course from the tips (Blacks, not the tournament tees), which fits my handicap of 4. It's not "too much Pete Dye," but still has all of his markings and design attributes. Fairways and greens were firm and fast and you had to be weary not to use too much club on approaches.

First off, the golf is excellent. I also just got married here on 5/5/13, and I can not say enough about our experience. Everything was perfect, beyond the amazing views and beautiful local, all of the staff was great, friendly, helpful, and made everything run so smoothly. Ginny and Brandi are outstanding, and were always so helpful with any issue that came up big or small. My expectations were exceeded, and am so glad we had our big day here. I really can't say enough, to say how happy were are. Thnak you LV Paiute!!!

We have went to Las Vegas the last 6yrs for Super Bowl weekend. We always play a round of golf on Saturday of Super Bowl weekend to get away from the casinos and get some fresh air. We came across Paiute Golf course a few years ago and have played here ever since with great joy. The course is beautiful and always in great shape. This year was a different experience for us. We arrived an hour before our tee time to take advantage of the wonderful breakfast buffett they have each Saturday. We went to the pro shop to pay and was greeted by Greg and another lady behind the counter. We noticed a sign that stated no rain checks for Super Bowl weekend. We had watched the weather that morning and there was a 50/50 chance of rain. I asked Greg if he could look at the radar and see if rain was moving towards the course. He pointed outside and stated that it wasn't raining then and we should be alright. He stated rain wasn't expected until later in the afternoon. Based on this we went ahead and paid $149 for the green fees and club rentals (they tried to charge us $189, however, we had spoke with someone when we setup the tee time a month prior and was given a price of $149 which they quickly were able to accept). They tried to charge us for a guy in our group that couldn't make it off the East coast due to the snow storm they were having. After discussions about this Greg stated he would work with us and not charge us a round for the guy that couldn't make it to Vegas. I understand they have a 7 day cancellation policy, however, our friend found out Friday (day of his flight) that his plane was cancelled. It shouldn't have taken as much consideration as it did to waive his green fees, especially considering we had six guys playing already. It was no later than ten minutes we were headed to pick up our clubs and get our cart that it started raining fairly hard. We decided to head to the first tee and see if it would let up any. We arrived at the first tee and was greeted by a starter and a ranger for the course. They couldn't believe that we were going to play in the pouring down cold rain so they radioed the club house to see if we could get a refund due to the weather or at least a rain check for next year. The starter was told "no" and there would be no refunds, therefore, we had to play. We made it thru 4 holes before we were numb, soaked and very frustrated. This is when we gave up and started to head back to the club house. One of the guys that was with us tried to open a beer that we had purchased from the snack bar at the course. He cut his finger trying to open the bottle and we came to realize that they had sold us pry off tops (needed a bottle opener) and not twist off tops (they also didn't provide any bottle opener for the pry off tops!). A very nice lady who was driving the beverage cart around stopped and provided us a bottle opener and radioed for the ranger to bring a band aid for our friend that cut his finger on the beer bottle. The staff at the course are VERY nice. Everyone from the starter, ranger to the lady driving the beverage cart. The management and the lady in the pro shop on the other hand were VERY rude and unwilling to work with us on a rain check or refund. We understand that it is one of the busiest weekends in Vegas and a huge money making opportunity for them, however, many guys we spoke with back at the club house were upset as well. They, like us, stated they wouldn't be back again. It us unfortunate they the management of the course looked at this one weekend as a money making weekend and took their eye off the ball in terms of thinking big picture and losing future revenue for the course. We won't be back ever again and the sentiment was the same from a lot of the guys that we spoke with in the club house.
