Light (in vacuum) travelling at less than the speed of light. Whose bright idea was that?

This is the next big step, even though it is only for US for now. It means you get a payment method independent on where you live.
Microsoft now lets users add bitcoin to their online accounts, enabling payments for apps, games and other digital content through its Xbox platform.

Nice visualization of our place in the universe. I read somewhere, that if you could travel to a random point in the universe, and look out from that point, all you would see with your naked eyes would be black. There simply would be nothing bright enough to see.

Common theme these days?
The first lines of Parse code were written nearly four years ago. In 2011 Parse was a crazy little idea to solve the problem of building mobile apps. Those

Exciting trend!

It is also a trend where we are increasingly able to produce answers, without knowing exactly how the answer was produced. That is a little scary.

This is undoubtedly one of the most exciting things happening inside Google right now. In particular, I'm struck by how many of the people I studied AI with back in the day are once again giddy with optimism that we've broken out of the old machine learning plateau and are on the verge of yet more profound breakthroughs.
Inside Google’s massive effort in Deep Learning, which could make already-smart search into scary-smart search

This was bound to happen,I suppose.

“After six years and over one billion dollars in development, the FBI has just announced that its new biometric facial recognition software system is finally complete. Meaning that, starting soon, photos of tens of millions of U.S. citizen's faces will be captured by the national system on a daily basis.”  Sound terrifying?  Then chill.  Breathe.  Inhale and exhale. As usual I must point out that there is absolutely nothing you or anyone else will accomplish by whining and railing against this.  If we panic and BAN the databases they will simply go underground.  Elites will have them. Elites will see us.

The one and only way to keep this from becoming Big Brother is to insist — with ferocious militancy — on our ability to look back at elites.  That is not only possible, it is what gave us the freedom we already have.
