Did you know that your new health insurance now allows you to be seen in Larkin’s very own multi-disciplinary specialty clinic by residents and attendants who are specializing in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine / Neuromuscular Medicine?

What is Osteopathic Medicine?

You are more than just the sum of your body parts. That’s why doctors of osteopathic medicine (DOs) practice a “whole person” approach to healthcare. Instead of just treating your specific symptoms, osteopathic physicians concentrate on treating you as a whole.

Osteopathic physicians understand how all the body’s systems are interconnected and how each one affects the others. They receive special training in the musculoskeletal system so that they can better understand how that system influences the condition of all other body systems. In addition, DOs are trained to identify and correct structural problems, which can assist your body's natural tendency towards health and self-healing.

DOs help patients develop attitudes and lifestyles that don't just fight illness, but also help prevent disease. Millions of Americans prefer this concerned and compassionate care and have made DOs their physicians for life.

What does our office do?

Osteopathic Manual Treatment.
Osteopathic manual treatment, or OMT, is hands-on care. It involves using the hands to diagnose, treat, and prevent illness or injury. Using OMT, your osteopathic physician will move your muscles and joints utilizing techniques that include stretching, gentle pressure and resistance. Aetna plans also typically cover massage therapy which is offered at our office as well. If necessary, injections to ease pain and increase a joints range of motion can be performed.

Complete Care including Ultrasound guided injections and Hands on treatment.
DOs are complete physicians, fully trained and licensed to prescribe medicine and to perform procedures. Many DOs incorporate osteopathic manual treatment into the care they provide, and those who choose to specialize in NMM receive additional training to do so. Our doctors are skilled in injections ranging from trigger points, all joint injections, and ultrasound guided nerve blocks. By combining all other appropriate medical options with OMT, DOs can offer to their patients the most comprehensive care available in medicine today.

Who Can Benefit From OMT?
OMT can help people of all ages and backgrounds. The treatment can be used to ease pain, promote healing and increase overall mobility. OMT is often used to treat pain in muscles, joints or pain in the back or in the neck. The treatment can also help patients with a number of other health problems such as: Musculoskeletal issues, asthma, sinus disorders, carpal tunnel syndrome, migraines, and menstrual pain.

When appropriate, OMT can complement, and even replace, drugs or surgery. In this way, OMT brings an important dimension to standard medical care.
