To be successful as an entrepreneur or business owner you need more than a title or position to persuade others to accept your agenda.

When you are a member of a tribe, you have an acute sense of belonging—you feel accepted and safe when things go wrong....

Life and business can be tough and competitive - when things go wrong you fear losing your company, your job, and maybe even your health.

Honored to be interviewed by Tim Pecoraro about my favorite topic—mental toughness!

http://uphillconversations.co/19-larae-quy-mental-toughness/

LaRae Quy was an FBI counterintelligence and undercover agent who exposed foreign spies and recruited them to work for the U.S. Government. A good FBI counterintelligence investigation uncovers new information about the spy to gain deeper insights into what influences their behavior and attitudes. LaRae’s job was to dig beneath the surface, probe the unknown, and discover their identity. In the process, she ended up knowing more about the foreign...

Time management is more than just work-life balance. The way you successfully manage your time is less about a packed schedule and more about a clear and organized mind.—LaRae Quy

Credit: Pixabay. When I was deeply involved in an investigation, I could no longer efficiently manage my time. My workouts and journal writing would be among the first victims of my busy schedule. Time for maintaining friendships was the next to go, and finally, no time for reading, either.

If you lack self-confidence, you will always feel like you’re at the mercy of other people. When you assume a victim mentality, you are no longer resilient to life’s inevitable obstacles and roadblocks....

Success would not make me confident—confidence in myself and my abilities would make me successful.

Scientists estimate that we have between 50,000 to 70,000 thoughts every day. Whenever you think about something, it is a form of self-talk so you can see how important it is to control your thoughts....

The internal conversations we have with ourselves, called self-talk, can go on for days and negative self-talk can cause us to second-guess ourselves.

Trust is at the heart of every business. Entrepreneurs, small business owners, and leaders need to work with people both inside and outside of their organization to create mutually beneficial relationships.

As a former FBI counterintelligence agent, I needed to learn how to build trust with others.

More than talent, more than education, more than experience—the ability to bounce back from setbacks determines who will succeed and who will fail. That is true in the classroom, in sports, and in the boardroom.

In today’s competitive culture, the ability to increase resilience has become a critical skill because it takes more than talent to succeed.

I grew up an unsophisticated ranch girl, and believe me, it takes a while to put a shine on a sneaker. I spent years being ridiculed because the educated elitists I met at universities and in business didn’t feel I was as enlightened as them.

When life throws you a curveball, meet it with grit, determination and persistence. As an entrepreneur, you will need to keep your eye on your goal.

Research shows that within five minutes of meeting someone, we can often evaluate them with 70 percent accuracy. Although that seems effective, the remaining 30 percent can be costly...

Entrepreneurs and leaders need to know how to read people so they can notice when inconsistencies arise and get insight into what is really going on.

Showing you how to become mentally strong to you can manage your emotions, thoughts, and behaviors in ways that set you up for success in business and life.
Introduction

I spent 24 years as an FBI agent working counterintelligence and espionage cases in the Silicon Valley. During the last four years, I was the spokesperson for the FBI in Northern California. I worked with local and national media including:

- 60 Minutes
- Wall Street Journal
- Forbes
- The New York Times
- ABC Primetime
- and ESPN, among others.

My career was profiled on ABC News in 2006.

I retired from the FBI in 2006 and received a graduate diploma from San Francisco Theological Seminary in 2011. When people ask me about transitioning from the FBI to seminary, I tell them that the life skills are the same: digging beneath the surface to uncover the truth.

Currently, I write, speak, and coach on how to get your voice heard, breaking through barriers, and surviving environments of risk, uncertainty, and discomfort.
