I don't worry about the big picture (unless its big picture planning time) and instead focus on the task at hand.
This doesn't sound like much, but it's allowed me to get an incredible amount done. Here's the deal - there are a lot of projects that have been on my plate that I KNEW weren't that hard, but thinking about them just stressed me out. Whenever I would think about them the sheer overwhelm would keep me from starting. (I'm guessing I'm not alone in this trait.)
I would always think “well I'll do that later”, but later never came.
For me the change took hiring a project manager but you actually don't even need to do that.
Here's what I do - now my project manager and I sit down together and talk about the overall plan for the project, every piece that needs to be done.
Then I put the plan in HER head and hands and out of mine, and she assigns me tasks as they need to be done. I like to have my tasks set for the week and be able to switch around when I hit a wall on one, but you might want to literally just have ONE in front of you as well, and not see your next one until that one is done.
This has cleared so much mental space for me it's unbelievable, and that space and ease of stress has allowed me to accomplish many of the things that have been overwhelming me for months.
