I was just thinking. A lot of halfwit bigots promised to leave the US if Barack Obama was elected. I'll bet none of them kept their word. They're still here, supporting The Demagogue. We just can't catch a break.

I'm a big advocate of people leaving the country for any reason, especially protest. I wrote: https://medium.com/@MikeElgan/why-you-should-really-leave-the-us-if-trump-gets-elected-3c08c7de48b7#.bxy4hesq7

It is never my custom to use words lightly. If twenty-seven years in prison have done anything to us, it was to use the silence of solitude to make us understand how precious words are and how real speech is in its impact on the way people live and die. -Nelson Mandela

I would like to change my life - my consciousness - and be more frugal with words. Often, my mouth runneth over, and too often I fling words at people who attribute no value to them.

Literature encourages tolerance - bigots and fanatics seldom have any use for the arts, because they're so preoccupied with their beliefs and actions that they can't see them also as possibilities.

- Northrop Frye

Not that I want to be a god or a hero. Just to change into a tree, grow for ages, not hurt anyone.

It's OK if people don't like you. Most people don't even like themselves. But just for the record, I think you're mostly alright. I'm just not sure about me.

Since when do we have to agree with people to defend them from injustice?

Wise people are passing from our lives. Have we heard and understood?

"The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference. The opposite of art is not ugliness, it's indifference. The opposite of faith is not heresy, it's indifference. And the opposite of life is not death, it's indifference."
...
"Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented. Sometimes we must interfere. When human lives are endangered, when human dignity is in jeopardy, national borders and sensitivities become irrelevant."

Elie Wiesel
Nobel Peace Prize, 1986

Transport of the mails, transport of the human voice, transport of flickering pictures -- in this century, as in others, our highest accomplishments still have the single aim of bringing men together.
- Antoine de Saint-Exupery

I've often said that I think social media platforms have the potential to spread peace. We just have to be willing to listen to each other, so I'll say this and then listen:

A campaign for public office is a job interview. We the People must hire public servants whose only priority is to be of service to all, and who have the foresight, humility, and determination to do so with all the wisdom they can muster.

Fear Stupid and reject it.

I'm reluctant to share this because it contains such a foul word, the epitome of selfish misogyny and stupid, hellish, egotiscial sexism. It's a word I wouldn't say in polite company or tolerate being uttered in front of my mother.

... Oh, and cunt is a very nasty word too. Sorry.
