Panera’s transition from Market Plaza and a parking lot that gives me nightmares, down the road to a much more accessible drive-thru location is about to be upon us. For those that fancy themselves a soup and a sandwich, this is music to your ears.

This is going to sound sad, but it's true. When I first visited Miami University in Oxford to see if I wanted to go to school there, while I enjoyed the beautiful scenery, what really sealed the deal for me was that they had a Jimmy Johns just a short walk from the edge of campus. My love of the Turkey Tom ran deep at the time, still does to this day...

At last, the empty Giesche Shoes store may finally undergo it’s long-awaited transformation, as the owner of Maize + Mash has proposed a new plan for the building which has been vacant since 2014. The vision for the new space includes a restaurant (we don’t really need another one of these–but if it’s good I’ll take it), a café (interesting, with Blackberry Market across the street) and an event space (intriguing)...

While the calendar said that it’s been fall for a month now, it looks like the weather finally got the memo, which is a shame. A common misconception in the real estate industry is that the fall is not a good time to have your house on the market. In fact, the opposite may be true as sellers are competing with less housing inventory, and the active buyers are more serious than ever. While the market may slow down a bit, now that kids are back in school and everyone is home from summer vacation, circumstances shift from more casual buyer traffic, to more focused buyers who have watched the market all year long and know exactly what they’re looking for.

Finally, the wait is nearly over to see the former Dominick’s at Baker Hill filled with a new grocery store, as a $1.25 million sales tax rebate was awarded by the Village Board to the owner of the shopping center on Monday. This tax incentive will be used to help Pete’s Fresh Market move into the 72,000 square foot space that has been left vacant for far too long.

First we had the news of Blackberry Market expanding into the building to the north, then there was the update that the Soukup’s building is set to be the second location for Geneva restaurant Nobel House, and now even more vacant territory along Main Street in downtown Glen Ellyn will be getting a makeover.

Another vacant retail space on Main Street bites the dust, as the old Soukup’s Hardware is set to be filled by – get this – another Geneva restaurant. This time it’s Nobel House, a relatively new restaurant to the Geneva scene, it opened its doors in 2014 but apparently the owners are already confident enough in their model that they’ve chosen Glen Ellyn as the location for their next establishment.

Blackberry Market is getting an upgrade, and killing two birds with one stone by making use of one of the vacant retail spaces along Main Street. The southern stretch of Main in downtown Glen Ellyn has seen a slow, painful exodus of businesses, the two largest spaces being Giesche Shoe Store, and most recently Soukup’s Hardware. One of these abandoned buildings formerly occupied by Riveria Jewelers is about to be put to use by Blackberry...

It looks like everything is on the table for updating the Glen Ellyn Metra station, which has always been a little underwhelming, to put it kindly. Built in 1961, it looks decent enough from the outside but a complete renovation may be in the works if not a total rebuild. After hiring an engineering company in March to undertake a yearlong study of the station, the village recently wrapped up a survey to help decide what improvements to the station would be most beneficial to the community...
