Thought this was an interesting take.
I first encountered the upper middle class when I attended a big magnet high school in Manhattan that attracted a decent number of brainy, better-off kids whose parents preferred not to pay private-school tuition. Growing up in an immigrant household, I’d felt largely immune to class distinctions. Before high school,...

Nailed it... it's all also the system of laws, and rules about how those laws are made, that allow such a phenomena. Don't hate the player...

I spend so much time stuck in traffic at the I-395/I-695 interchange that Google Now has started asking if I work there.

Stanislaw Jerzy Lec has long been my favorite aphorist. I think I like "When smashing monuments, save the pedestals—they always come in handy." best, but he has a lot of gems if you do a google search.

But I found out today that he was also a total badass. During WWII, Lec was imprisoned in a Nazi camp. After a failed attempt to escape, he was sentenced to death and forced to dig his own grave. So Lec waits for all but one of Nazis watching him to leave for dinner, and then kills the remaining Nazi using the shovel he was digging his own grave with. Then he puts on the dead guard's uniform and successfully escapes to Warsaw, where he joined the Polish resistance.

UKIP have updated Schrödinger’s famous thought experiment by insisting that immigrants exist in a state of both lazing around on benefits whilst simultaneously being out there stealing British jobs.

+Groupon I am ashamed.  You promise goods on the cheap, yet you dare to take the name of GNOME?  An icon of Free and Open Source Software?

Drop the name acquisition.

#FOSSFOREVER
"GNOME" the trademark has been a familiar name for the past 17 years in the Free and Open Source Software community. The GNOME project has been a staple desktop for GNU/Linux and BSD desktops. It was the default desktop for Sun Microsystems workstation class machines, continues to be the default ...

So what does everyone think of the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9? Will you be buying one?

For me, I just can't justify the upgrade. My half-the-price Nexus 5 is still fully functional for my needs. And I need baggy cargo pants to come back into style before I become a phablet person. (Girl pants and their inadequate pockets /sighs) I do really want an excuse to buy a Nexus 9 with keyboard though. I'd really like to replace my laptop with the combo, but then I'd miss the little bit of gaming that I do and it seems superfluous to have both a laptop and a tablet/keyboard combo.

The long-awaited (and long-rumored) Nexus 6, the 6-inch (technically 5.96) monster phablet, is finally, officially here. The Nexus 6, like its predecessors before it, will be the first device in the world to ship with Android's new operating system, Lollipop. It's the purest vision of what an Android phone should be. Apparently Android phones should be huge.

O_O want.

TL;DR just look at the pretty picture

My ears were never stretched anywhere near this far -- I was at 4g (5mm diameter) before I let them shrink back to 14g (only a little larger than a standard ear piercing) while I was looking for a job. Of course I ended up with a job where no one would care if I had stretched ears, so now I totally regret downsizing :'( I'm not sure if I have the motivation to stretch them again, especially since there's always the possibility of having to downsize again for work-related reasons in the future.

Love this quote
It should come as no surprise that C.S. Lewis, the world-renowned author of The Chronicles of Narnia series, believes that everyone should read books. Reading gives you the ability to see an infinite number of perspectives all while remaining yourself.

Is anyone interested in doing this in the DMV region? (I have a night shift the night before so I'm not really up for being an organizational force.)

Agents.  We are pleased to announce a new type of Niantic event - "Ingress: First Saturday."

Part social, part competitive, Ingress: First Saturday is an Agent-organized meetup that happens on the first Saturday of the month.  The very first #IngressFS meetup will happen on November 1, 2014; and 24 cities will be selected to receive Niantic Labs' official "Ingress: First Saturday Kits (IFSK-100)".  The select 24 cities will be chosen on October 20, 2014 from those communities/cities that register at http://goo.gl/pNR7pI

Ingress:  First Saturday Schedule:

10:00 AM  Cross-Faction Coffee:  Join or invite new and seasoned Enlightened and Resistance Agents in this purely social Cross-Faction meetup. All Levels are encouraged to join.  Grab a cup of coffee, meet local Agents face-to-face-to-face, learn how to play Ingress or teach a new Agent the ins and outs of Ingress and share Ingress stories.

12:00 PM  Level-Up Bootcamp (Start):  Register your level and AP with the opposing Faction lead.  HiLVL Agents will pair with newer Agents working to level up.  Note that the official Visur game mechanic will reward AP gained among low level Agents during #IngressFS most handsomely.

2:00 PM  Level-Up Bootcamp (End):  Agents will check back in with the opposing Faction Lead to record their final AP.  Individual Faction prizes are included in IFSK-100's.  Communities are encouraged to develop their own Faction prize/trophies.

Can Austin take Portland?  Will Sydney top Aukland? Shall Buenos Aires rise above Rio?  City v. city total Cross-Faction AP gain will be measured and reported back to #IngressFS for bragging rights and possible awarding of the next set of IFSK-100's for December 6, 2014 (48 cities).

Register your November 1 #IngressFS event via http://goo.gl/pNR7pI. On October 20, Niantic Labs will poll all registered Google+ event pages for RSVP "Yes" attendance and other factors.  24 selected cities will be shipped an IFSK-100 - designed to supply a total of 100 Agents.
