I just found out that Sir Terry Pratchett died today. He is one of my all time favorite authors and will certainly be missed.

Just last night I finished reading The Wee Free Men with my daughter and I look forward to reading more discworld books to my kids.

It's rare to find a voice that can shine a light on the good and bad of human behavior but always do so through the lense of humor.

You will be missed.

Today is hopefully the android L announcement along with details on the nexus 6. With so many good options out there, I'm still unsure which phone I should get. What do you think?

Finally! An ad that doesn't depict all dads as lazy idiots!

This is a trend I hope continues. #howtodad

So I concluded my #testdrive with +T-Mobile yesterday.

I learned that T-Mobile service by me is much better than it used to be. There were pockets of weak signal, but no worse than my experiences with Verizon. The coverage is adequate in many of the areas I frequent.

at times T-Mobile was much faster than Verizon, but primarily when outside. Verizon usually had much better signal indoors, which makes it the overall winner in this comparison.

I really appreciate the testdrive program for letting me do this comparison myself instead of trusting a coverage map or trying to get impressions of coverage from people I know.

So what's next? My contract is up at the end of the month and now I have to see what options make the most sense for me. T-Mobile has proved to me it's a worthy one to consider.

Definitely! I'm a bit off the beaten path, so it might not be an option, but good to know it might be worth another look. Really curious how the coverage might have improved. Might need to grab a T-Mobile SIM and compare side by side. Currently switching between two devices, so no issue with carrying another device.

moto x HELP!  -

Silly question.

I own a Pure Edition Moto X 2014 running on T-Mobile.

Who is responsible for pushing OS updates to my phone?   I just had a chat with a motorola support rep who said:

"We are only the manufacture of your device and we are not in charge of sending any update unless your device doesn't have any telephone number. Android makes the update and this has been sent always thru your carrier including pure editions."

is that right?  I was under the impression that Motorola directly updated my phone since Tmobile doesn't sell or support it.

Ah ... but that ANTICIPATION as you click on Settings/About Phone/System Updates! Here's what I found while poking around: http://goo.gl/IygVeW

I'm not saying you should, but if you were thinking of making the switch, this guide might be helpful.

You should switch.

While I don't expect I'd be using it underwater, that's a nice feature to have!  Keeping an eye on availability for this one.

not hip on the black bar on the bottom of the 360, think the LG G watch looks better as far as round faced watches go

so my very unscientific test has begun of the T-Mobile network using their new #testdrive program. (Funny enough, my test iphone 5s arrived today just as Google IO was starting.)

The process has been fairly simple.  I ordered the phone online, it was 2 day shipped to me, the box arrived, the phone was already activated and ready to go.  I downloaded the speedtest.net app and starting running side by side comparisons with my Verizon S3.

After 10 tests today since lunch, Verizon is by far the victor.

Verizon average download speed  - 7.34mb
Tmobile average download speed - 1.82mb

Tomorrow I'll get a chance to check the signal in a few more spots.

Mine doesn't get very good service at home, (outskirts of Middletown, or at my parents (Middlefield), or my favorite comic shop (Durham is a dead zone), but everywhere else it does just fine. Or I have wifi and it no longer matters.
