On mindsets, and achievements.

A fixed "I just don't have what it takes" vs "I just need to work harder" mindset.
And how the former thwarts your potential
HINT: Don't tell your kids that they are. More than three decades of research shows that a ocus on “process”—not on intelligence or ability—is key to success in school and in life

I prayed with my girl and God guided me each step of the way! What works with one child will not work with all! With strong wiled children you have to be wiser than they!

Thoughtful practice as opposed to mindless repeats.
Applies to more than just music.

Brilliant article about practicing with intelligence!
My personal mantra: "Practicing means repeating the right thing" . At home pure perfection, then on stage full risk, if your hands just know the right thing how could they do then something else?

Some might remember shortest path algorithm from school / uni / book.
Yahoo! has approached it differently. And it starts in London

Learning

"Content analysis of the notes consistently showed that students who used laptops had more verbatim transcription of the lecture material than those who wrote notes by hand.  Moreover, high verbatim note content was associated with lower retention"

I won't argue with that.

Creativity and a good, well executed idea.
That type of advertisement I don't mind at all

The birth of the web

In case you were interested. The first website ever. Written by CERN, just like the Internet itself, back in the late 80s - early 90s. Here, simulated by a line-mode browser emulator.

For best experience, I'd go fullscreen ( F11 or Cmd-Shift-F depending on browser or OS). Oh, and switch the sound on.

P.S.
As I was already told, it won't work in IE... Not a huge surprise, but hey...

What makes the subject itself interesting, is that there are more possibilities, than certainties.
Relatively speaking.

Now, all you need is a faster camera, Shazam, and you can see what music they're playing behind the soundproof window
(as long as there are chips in the room anyway).

Seeing is hearing: Researchers at +CSAIL MIT have developed a "visual microphone" that can extract speech from a potato-chip bag filmed through soundproof glass. Full story: http://mitne.ws/1mf7Qyh

"A poem is never finished, only abandoned"
as Paul Valery would say.

It might as well be the case with a pencil drawing.
When there's never enough time to get it done properly.

"Author Stephen King said that he preferred to work while listening to hard rock music (which for some of us, would be too noisy to concentrate on anything)."

So that's where all those stories about man-eating lobsters came from... Listening to hard rock tunes...

BCI and composition

As someone who actually gave away his headset to the Plymouth uni some years ago, I can't be happier to see such uses of BCI technology.

How can you compose classical music with your brainwaves? http://bbc.in/1fGZVau

Or give him a biscuit... Biscuits work a treat.

"Temptation resisted is the true measure of character".
Then he'll say no to the biscuit...
Bragging rights
Years of failed attempts to keep the mind narrow. Creative childhood spent drawing pictures, dressing as a ninja, shooting cans with a slingshot. When google was still a spelling mistake.
