I'm very lucky to have joined the board at Opportunity Alliance Reentry! Our clients are amazing, and OAR offers a huge range of much needed services. This year OAR was displaced by a collapsed roof. We have temporary housing while we wait for our new space to open up. Through a lot of challenges our incredible staff has continued to meet clients, get birth certificates, distribute bus passes, give away bikes to clients without drivers licenses, support educational advancement, distribute work and interview clothes, and much much more.

You can learn about one of our clients below. Adrian is about to get his licensure as a barber in the state of Virginia!

What followed at last night’s meeting was a clear rallying cry from the community: we deserve ...

What we can do - Trump is president elect. My classes are full of tearful students asking what can be done. In truth I have no idea, and very few of us truly do I suspect. It will be some time before anyone gets their footing. This seems true of everyone I encounter, even though this is also true: You live in the same white supremacist, misogynistic society you did yesterday. But now, you know. — Julie Goldberg (@juliegoldberg) November 9, 2016 If we were to be honest with ourselves, we’ve ...

Contingent Academic Labor - This is the story of OSU breaking promises (and contracts) to fund FT contingent teachers of first year writing. #contingentacademiclabor https://t.co/j7l0DlaGQZ — David M. Perry (@Lollardfish) October 24, 2016 Earlier this week a colleague linked me to the above tweet summarizing an ongoing debate over the employment status of the most vulnerable members of OSU’s English faculty (more coverage at The Lantern). Adjuncts faced broken contracts at the hands of an a...
