(Photo and words by +Kristian Leven) "What ultimately arose was a collective that encouraged and inspired one another to create original and dynamic work, away from the confines of a wedding day."

In the first of our brand new Showcase features, Kristian talks about the inspiration behind organising the street photography trip to Paris, as well as sharing a few of the results:

How to get most out of Google+ for your photography business
Google+ is fast becoming a behemoth in the social world and is well ahead of Facebook (chronologically) when it comes to its user base at the same point since its launch. There are in excess of 500 million users and growing very fast. Please check out this article -

You may have joined this community as yourself (your profile) but actually you would be better positioned to join the community as your Google Verified Business Page – If you don’t have a Google Verified Business Page then I would suggest you get one.

For more information on Google+ for Business -

The link above should help you if you are already dazed and confused by Google+. As with everything Google, the process may not be the smoothest and can be frustrating, and confusing to action. But that said, I would advise you to persevere and create or claim your Verified Business Page. Use it as your main channel when you are active/posting on Google+ in the future.

If historically you have a Google Local/Places Listing, you should be able to claim the listing when logged into your Google+ profile and migrate the listing to a Google Verified Business Page. If you have never had a Google Local/Places Listing for your photography business, then follow the link above and make sure you set up a Google Verified Business Page and join the community as your page.

Making posts on Google+

Try to always post to the community as your Google Verified Business Page.

Posting your photography (upload image) with a related link in the copy section to a page or post on your website is a great way of gaining the recognition your work deserves. Additionally you are opening up a potential traffic source to a deeper page or post on your website and creating the opportunity to gain social signals (Google +1’s) for the specific page or post.

When you post and share your content as your Google Business Page with the community, you can gain accumulative social votes (Google +1’s). This is not possible form a profile. When you post from your profile, the +1’s can only relate to the actual content of the post or the link within the post. If there is no link in post, Google+1’s are only relevant within the Google+ network.

Personally, I would always try where possible to relate a post on Google+ to a deeper, relevant page or post on your website. This opens up an external channel for the social votes and potential traffic. If individuals reshare your post on Google+ this is a significantly stronger signal than a Google +1.

Examples of Profiles & Pages

This is a Google+ Profile -

This is a Google+ Verified Business Page - (Note the tick in the shield next to the brand name)

Having a well maintained and socially active Google Verified Business Page will become very important to your business in the coming years, specifically your local search strategy.

Things to consider moving forward

Posting to communities as a Google+ Verified Business Page is a strong strategy to grow your accumulative social votes (Google+1’s) for your brand.

Always where possible add a link to relevant content on your website when posting as your Google+ page.

Be smart! Use Google+ effectively for your photography business and you will see the rewards over time.

If you think this post is of interest in general to photographers and their online business strategy, can I ask you kindly to share it with your circles? This will also give the community the exposure it deserves.

Oh and you can always add me to your circles too? :)

Thanks +Jason Noblett

Remember - Google+ is for smart people that want to create an amazing Internet; not individuals that want to relive their past!

Well that’s what they want you to believe...

Really proud to have my work from Bangladesh recognised by the International Street Photography Awards, with this image in particular being Commended in their Colour category.

So many good things have come from that trip, and all it does is strengthen my resolve to travel more and more every year. It's so liberating to get out of our comfort zone every now and again, experience other cultures, and be reminded of the great things we have that we take for granted at times.

If you happened to miss the post first time round, here's a link to all the images from that incredible country.
