How To Use Hashtags In Your Facebook Marketing Campaign
Facebook announced earlier this week that they were launching clickable and searchable hashtags. Are hashtags live for you on Facebook yet? They have gone live for me today.

Yesterday I posted a personal update about an infographic from Electric Ireland and used their hashtag that I noticed they were using on Twitter - today when I look at the post I can see the hashtag is blue so when I click on it I can navigate straight to the search for that hashtag #energyguzzlers

See my post here:

See the hashtag search here:

You will be able to:

- post a hashtag in your status update
- search for hashtags from the search bar
- contribute to the conversation in the search bar posting - the hashtag will already be in the status update box so you do not need to write it in.

Five Tips To Help You Use Hashtags On Facebook In Your Marketing

1 - Integrate hashtags into your campaigns across all media from Google Plus to Twitter, Instagram and of course Facebook

2 - If you are using hashtags for a marketing campaign make sure that it is unique so the conversation is not drowned out by another conversation

3 - Ensure that you check hashtags you know are used in relation to your brand as part of your online reputation monitoring and customer service programme

4 - Don't hijack a hashtag - we have seen too many examples of Twitter hashtags that have gone wrong where a brand inappropriately uses a hashtag especially when related to disasters

5 - Promote your campaign hashtag across all media - both online and offline.

What other suggestions do you have for integrating Facebook hashtags into your digital marketing campaign?

Update - Facebook Marketing with Hashtags

I have just published a presentation with six additional tips including screenshots for those of you who have not yet got access to hashtags on Facebook. You will find the presentation here:

It appears that Facebook posts in hashtag searches are getting re-ordered and are listed not according to the most recently posted hashtag.

Tops posts have the most likes, comments and shares followed by the most recent posts.

This is going to be interesting to monitor and is important for your marketing campaigns and online visibility.

More Resources About Facebook Hashtags For Marketers

Facebook Studio posted:

Every day, more than 4.75 billion pieces of content are shared on Facebook. In many cases, these conversations are about brands, products, public figures and local businesses.
Hashtags are now available to a small percentage of people and Pages on Facebook, and we will roll them out more broadly in the coming weeks.
Here is what marketers need to know:

- If you are already using hashtags in an advertising campaign through other channels, you can amplify these campaigns by including your hashtags in Facebook advertising.

- Any hashtags that you use on other platforms that are connected to your Facebook Page will be automatically clickable and searchable on Facebook.

- Like other Facebook marketing tools, hashtags allow you to join and drive the conversations happening about your business. We recommend you search for and view real-time public conversations and test strategies to drive those conversations using hashtags.

- Hashtags do not impact your distribution or engagement in News Feed on either desktop or mobile. We recommend you continue to focus on your existing campaigns to drive your most important business objectives.

Hashtags are a first step in surfacing relevant and important public conversations.  Over time our goal is to build out additional functionality for marketers including trending hashtags and new insights so that you can better understand how hashtags fit into your overall Facebook advertising strategies and drive your business objectives.
