META Information for those interested:

I've not worked directly with Migrate in D8, but if its plugins are D8 plugins, then we should be getting https://drupal.org/node/2211633 committed asap. This provides a composer.json for the plugin system in D8 opens up the possibility of a separate repository for the Plugins component code. This could then mean that any drupal plugin based code that didn't require specific Drupalisms could be made available via composer as well with a dependency on this and it would be usable outside of Drupal. There's also an Annotation component which I've not yet written a composer file for, and most plugins utilize this (which will require Doctrine common).

Hopefully that gives some foundation for the most basic parts of what it would take to even begin discussing making Migrate useful outside of Drupal proper.
We've had this conversation for Utility as well, I'll say here what I said there, a 5.3.x dependency does not in any way retard forward momentum on Plugins. Drupal itself has a 5.4 dependency but its components should specify a dependency that is truly reflective of what they actually require.

well anything in /core/lib/Drupal/Component is slated to be "composer-able". The Utility code therein already has a composer.json and Plugins is next on my list. We'll have to do the work to get separate repos, but this is a good first step.

As an aside to the existing political nonsense of the past weeks, I'd like to point out to conservatives and liberals both that this is why NO significant reform of any serious system is going to be effective for the foreseeable future: http://www.ted.com/talks/lawrence_lessig_we_the_people_and_the_republic_we_must_reclaim.html?utm_content=buffer07e93&utm_source=buffer&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Buffer

I've mentioned Campaign Finance and Intellectual Property reform a number of times as being FAR more important than the healthcare reform this administration was so anxious to pass. Until we make the politicians dependent upon the majority of the people (instead of the money of the .05%) no reform of any system will affect change that benefits the people.

I bring up IP reform in all this as well because that's the hidden cost to medical machinery, drugs, and more. You want health care to cost less? fix our completely messed up intellectual property laws. It'll reduce your overall cost of living as well since IP insinuates its way into every facet of our daily lives, from software, to drugs, to machines, to music and more. I'm not saying there's shouldn't be IP, I'm saying what we have currently is completely unreasonable, and it'll strangle the economy of this country eventually (assuming some other boogie man doesn't get it first).

Lawrence Lessig said it better than I possible could with regard to Campaign Finance reform. I don't care if you're a liberal or a conservative (or moderate), watch the video, change your view point, and fight the battles in the proper order. Maybe we could get some reforms we can all agree on once the blocking issues and corporate interests are out of the way.

I put up a new notification system on the site. Let me know if this feels like a better first step than the last one ;-)

Well, that didn't take long! We've got our very first Jawa posted after the update already. #starwars   #swagonline
This started as quick scribble to use as my profile pic and grew from there. Was that digital or traditional? I'm having a hard time telling, but seeing some differences between the profile pic and this one makes me think it's digital. I really like how this jawa looks so much more mobile than ...

JAM and I had a conversation shortly after Drupalcon. Not the smoothest of interviews either of us have done, but it still turned out great and had some worth while discussion.

Managed to get a nice podcast out of a terribly difficult recording session with +Kris Vanderwater – our Hangout kept cutting out.

Apologies for the poor audio on my end of this. Worth a listen nonetheless!

+Acquia podcast 141 is live!
Kris Vanderwater (eclipseGC), and I got together in a Google Hangout plagued with technical difficulties to discuss DrupalCon Austin and Kris's new job as Acquia's Developer Evangelist. In the sections I could save and keep reasonably useable after editing, we talk about Drupal 8 and the incredible energy present in the Drupal community recently; a couple of hot topics DrupalCon Austin; and Kris's new job as "a developer for the community".

I felt like people needed some Drupal 8 news that was of the flavor "Good".
To say I've spent a lot of time working on Drupal 8 over the last 21 months would be a bit of an understatement. The Plugin System & the Blocks & Layouts Initiative have consumed much of my professional and personal time over that period, and we've worked on a lot of really awesome and ...

It's stuff like this that illustrates so clearly what's different about SWAG when you look at other star wars art sites. We're about emotion, we're about stories, we're about characters. We're about carving out a place in the Star Wars universe for yourself, and what that really means, and our artists have done that for so many people. Some of our artists are professionals. Some of our artists should be ;-) and some just try really hard, but whatever their level, the thing that brings us all together is the characters, and of course #starwars. #swagonline
Some of us love to pad out or between-session 'down time' with a bit of extra narrative, generally played out via email. It's also a great way to have lengthy conversations that we don't necessarily want all of the party to be privy to. Such has been the case between our poor dear Evi, ...

Once upon a time, I was given the opportunity to take part in helping to recreate and maintain one of the best sites on the web. If you like #starwars, or enjoy good art, or are just interested in an interesting Drupal build, I'd encourage you to take a look. This is really the site that got me involved in Drupal to begin with.
