+Frederick Wright Doesn't matter. The smell makes me gag. I live down the road from Melitta Coffee and the drive by makes me want to throw up. I can't even eat coffee ice cream and have spit out tirimasu that has been made with coffee.

It's one of those things that just doesn't agree with me.

IMHO, mass-produced pasteurized milk (what's generally found in the common grocery store) is bad for health, especially low or non-fat versions, which used to be thrown out after separation for the cream before the 'eating fat makes you fat' myth became unfortunately popular in the western world. Raw milk, cleanly produced from pastured cows (or even better, goats) is healthy and can even be enjoyed by those that are lactose intolerant.

In California, Claravale Dairy is a great source for fresh raw milk.

+Ken Montville I guess money does change everything, and the only way to defend yourself is to gain as much knowledge as you can. Articles like the ones +Kris Gunnars writes, are a godsend.

One thing I've learned is that FOOD produces the most potent effects in the human body, sometimes stronger effects than prescription drugs. And we should use it right... but for that, we need to learn. The problem though, is that we take food for granted because we eat everyday and already have a routine. So we go for something on top of the food and very often, to correct the problems created by the food we eat regularly.

There are dozens of examples of this: Diabetes Type 2, Heart Problems, Cholesterol, etc. etc. etc. All addressable with food, but people 99% of the time, go to drugs FIRST to deal with them.

+Sean P. O. MacCath-Moran Yeah, really, rally. You can't make a blanket statement that vegans live longer "cased closed" because there is absolutely no evidence whatsoever to validate that claim. So, to expect no blacklash or to be called on it is as ludicrous as the statement made.

You vegans/vegetarians like to make such stupid claims in order to validate your diet. I've yet to meet a vegan or vegetarian who doesn't come up to me to proclaim they're a vegan/vegetarian. Never had a meat eater or low carber do that. What am I suppose to do, pat you on the back? Congratulate you? Does that soothe your ego somehow?

If you look at my post, I never said meat eaters live longer and don't get cancer. Even so, I never rationalize it the way you vegans do. As I have said before, when a vegan dies of cancer, the vegans will dismiss is it as variable factors and genetics, but if a meat eater dies of cancer, a vegan will tell you it was the diet.

Finally, sourcing wikipedia for information is like getting information from my grandmother and the old biddies she hangs out with in her gossip circle.

Story

On a mission to save the world from nutrition misinformation and pseudoscience...
Introduction
I'm a med student and certified personal trainer from Reykjavik, Iceland.

My main interests in life are related to health and nutrition. You could say that it has become pretty much an obsession and I've spent the last few years reading blogs, books and research studies.

I run an evidence-based nutrition blog called Authority Nutrition. I write about health related topics from an evidence-based perspective every week.

The point of my website is to look through the literature to find evidence-based answers and solutions to common modern health problems, preferably from randomized controlled trials (the gold standard of research).

Then what I try to do is to decipher the scientific jargon and explain it in human terms, in language that both professionals and laypeople can understand.

I'm particularly interested in the low carb diet as a potential treatment for obesity, type II diabetes and metabolic syndrome... which are the biggest health problems in the world.

Other topics I cover on my site include weight loss, healthy eating, myth busting, food addiction, specific foods, sweeteners and whatever other health related topic I'm interested in exploring and discussing at the time.

Please take a moment to add me to your circles, I'd love to connect with you!

Personal

In my spare time, I like to read, hang out with family and friends, listen to music, watch movies, go for walks and lift heavy things.
