I just installed a couple more +Ubiquiti Networks #mFi outlets to monitor/control power at the media center. This is the best automation system on the market today. It is exactly what I've been searching for for years.

H/T +Arthur Brownlee IV for introducing me to the mFi line.

I finally, after all these years, had an opportunity to use a supernatural collective noun tonight. My work here is complete.

Full size Snickers and M&Ms?!?! Where were these houses when I was a kid?

I originally planned to impose the standard parent tax this year, but now I'm thinking it might be . . . . "wiser" to levy a special excise tax on all candy over a certain size.

I do it for the children, you see.

+Kris Grassman, I figured it was a bit of a troll to see how many people would re-post it without actually put any critical thought into it, as I did to one of my co-workers the next day; at first her jaw dropped to the floor and she got seriously creeped out. I'd say it took a full 10 seconds before she realized the truth. Of course she tried to convince me she was putting on an act, but nobody is that good of an actor. I wish you could have seen her! .... Of course I had to give her a good ribbing about it the rest of the day.

Truth is, success is not built overnight... To some, it will seem as such; but it is a combination of:
- time
- hard work
- dedication/perseverance/commitment
and most important
- TEAMWORK

Well, +Arthur Brownlee IV, I took the leap and got myself a +Ubiquiti Networks mPower Pro. I set it up in my office and put the controller on the Mac Mini that's always running as a media center/file server anyway. It's been installed for almost two weeks now and it's basically exactly what I've been looking for for years. It works really well.

I'll have to do this in phases, but the next step is to get a handful of outlets and light switches. Thanks for the tip, man!

I'm declaring war on Texas. You people think you know chili, but you haven't tried mine. Thick, chunky, and awesome. I've never been to Texas, but I'm pretty sure my chili can kick the crap out of anything you got.

Yeah, I'm looking at you +Theodore Minick, +Kevin Stagg, +Terry Kilpatrick, +Doug Stryker, +Daniel Woodworth, +Michael Hambright, and whoever else lives there.

My favorite messaging app, +Threema GmbH, got dinged because it's closed-source. I wish they'd open it up for outside audit because it could be the best.

That said, I also have +TextSecure and it's pretty solid. Good to know its security and privacy has been independently verified.
Which apps and tools actually keep your messages safe?In the face of widespread Internet surveillance, we need a secure and practical means of talking to each other from our phones and computers. Many companies offer “secure messaging” products—but are these systems actually secure? We decided to find out, in the first phase of a new EFF Campaign for Secure & Usable Crypto. This scorecard represents only the first phase of the campaign. In later p...

+1 if you're still a man. You must provide proof in the comments.

Men, make that males, are a bunch of hapless pansies these days. My wife has told me countless times that she loves how I can do just about anything. I rebuilt a Chevy 350 when I was 19. I built my first computer when I was 18. I rebuilt our Kirby vaccum a few months ago and I just finished remodeling my daughters' bedroom this week. I fix toys, plumbing issues, electrical issues, structural issues, cars, computers, and just about anything else my famliy puts on my workbench. I even built my damn workbench!

Men won't go extict as long as I'm around. I'm guessing there are a few more in my circles as well.
As traditional roles have changed, today's men are more like their mothers than their fathers. No wonder DIY is dying out, says Martin Daubney

These guys make probably the best burger in town. My only complaint is the prices, but the food and service are outstanding.

This is one of two places in Olympia that tie for best burger in town. The dine-in area can be a little grubby, but the food is great! Great prices too!

Budd Bay Cafe has good food, decent prices, and great service. I've come here many times and the food is always very good. The Sunday brunch buffet is the best I've ever had. It's a great treat on special occasions.

This is my favorite restaurant in Olympia. Outstanding food. It's always busy, but it's easy to see why.

The only reason this place is still in business is its prime location. The service is poor and the food is average. It's one my least favorite restaurants in town. A great alternative, if you want some seafood on the water, is Budd Bay Cafe. They have good seafood at decent prices and are just a short trip down the boardwalk.

This a fantastic place for parents and kids to have some quality time together. Almost everything is designed for parent-child interaction with a focus on stimulating learning and discovery. If you're the type of person that prefers to just hold up a wall while your kid runs wild, then you'll probably get bored pretty quick. There's no TV after all. However, any parent that engages in the activities with their kids will have a great time. Very highly recommended.
