SSD FAQ of the Week: "How do I know if I'm eligible to file for social security disability?"

Attorney Matthew Stewart answers: "Generally, for Title 2 you must have worked 5 out of the last ten years. For SSI you must have less than $2,000 in assets. Of course you cannot be working above the level defined as substantial gainful activity."

SSD FAQ of the Week: “At what point should I involve a lawyer with a SSD claim?"

Attorney Matthew Stewart answers: “Our office suggests to at least consult with a lawyer before even filing the claim. Our office does not charge for the consultation, and then the client can decide whether and when to hire the attorney. We often can save significant processing time with spotting issues early and resolving them. This may be important because if a person is denied, it takes a year, or longer, to get a hearing before a judge."
