The sun emitted a significant flare on Sept. 10. Solar flares are powerful bursts of radiation. Harmful radiation from a flare cannot pass through Earth's atmosphere to physically affect humans on the ground.  However -- when intense enough -- they can disturb the atmosphere in the layer where GPS and communications signals travel. Jupiter’s moon Europa may be more Earth-like than we imagined. Scientists see signs of plate tectonics. Details: http://go.nasa.gov/1rTKpTx

Iberian Peninsula at Night

One of the International Space Station crew members recorded this early evening photo of the entire Iberian Peninsula (Spain, Portugal and Andorra) on July 26, 2014. Part of France can be seen at the top of the image and the Strait of Gibraltar is visible at bottom, with a very small portion of Morocco visible near the lower right corner.

Story
Tagline
Software engineer by trade. Computer engineer by training. Philosopher by choice.
Introduction
Hi, I'm Kostas. I am a software engineer and a confirmed geek :-)
I am also a thinker, a dreamer, a philosopher and a coffee drinker. I like reading, music, problem solving, learning new things and discussing technology, the world and life in general with others (over a cup of coffee of course). I am fascinated by artificial intelligence and artificial life. I wish my molecular biology skills were as good as my C skills so that I could program cells. Now that would be cool! I dislike bad designs, like the modern car.
After working for eight years in the mobile industry, first at Nokia then at Renesas Mobile, I decided to have a break and think about the things I would like to do in life. So I turned from Senior Protocol Software Engineer to a researcher on anything I find interesting: AI, TCP/IP, Linux, embedded systems, databases and more!
Care to network? Drop me a line.
Bragging rights
Finally pushed myself out of my comfort zone, took a leap of faith and started doing those things I always enjoyed but never had time for. I also have a couple of cool engineering stories about CSoHSPA and debugging a rather nasty memory corruption on an ARM embedded system. I can share them with you when we hang out.
