It's always an exciting morning, following a monthly Service and Special Projects Department meeting. Our Technicians submit their service vans to a rigorous inspection by their peers. The trucks are reviewed inside and out for cleanliness, organization, safety, tools, and materials. As you would expect, there's plenty of smack-talk to be heard between the Tech's as they go over each other's vehicles with fine tooth combs, desperately trying to find the smallest imperfection to mark down.

The points winner gets a gift card and, most importantly, highly coveted bragging rights for a month. In the end, the whole department wins with the Kortman Electric, Inc. fleet being the finest-looking, stocked, and organized team of service vehicles on the streets.

Looking good team!

If you've been in business as long as we have, it's inevitable that you have to taste the bittersweet emotions that come from an old friend's retirement.

It’s with mixed emotions that we bid a fond farewell to one of the founding members of our Service and Special Projects Department. Van number 45, affectionately referred to as “The Green Bomb”, has the distinction of being the first partner many of our technicians worked with as they joined the company. Many have warm memories of the times they spent with The Green Bomb,… on the side of the road, waiting for a tow truck.

Despite being a lifelong (blue) smoker and suffering from ever declining health, The Green Bomb served Kortman Electric’s clients with pride, hauling tools and material to job-sites all around the state of Arizona. It did it without complaint, even without the modern technology enjoyed by the rest of the fleet, like dual-ladder lift systems, a backup camera and sensor, security systems, internal sound proofing, or even a decent suspension.

Please join us in wishing the good ol’ Green Bomb a happy retirement, as it gets de-badged and turns in its equipment from the utility yard. Soon it will drive one last time, behind a tow truck, into the sunset to begin its next adventure, perhaps as a chicken coop or a tool shed?

Farewell old friend.

Over a year ago, an APS electrical supplementary battery system caught fire at a sub-station in Flagstaff, AZ. A couple weeks ago, Kortman Electric sent a team to assist in the demolition and removal of the burned out unit and related equipment. The massive array of burned lithium-ion batteries was considered a hazardous working environment. Our team had to be specially trained and outfitted to perform the work.

This Phoenix based crew left the last heat of summer and traveled to the beautiful temps of Flagstaff in the Fall. Team members Steve Mollohan (Project Manager), Greg Beck (Foreman), Javier Galindo (Electrician) and Romeo L'Heureaux (Electrician) completed the project safely, and ahead of schedule.

Great work gentlemen!

We are pleased to congratulate Steven Williams and Deondray Williams for completing their internship with Kortman Electric’s Service and Special Projects Department.

The gentlemen are students of the Arizona State University - College of Technology and Innovation, studying under Dr. Gerry Polesky. An objective of the course was to obtain their LEAN Six Sigma Black Belt certification. The project involved an in-depth review of the technology and processes used by the Department to find at least $35,000 in efficiency savings. Following an estimated 500 hours spent working on the project, they presented their conclusions in an in depth presentation to Dr. Polesky and a Kortman Electric management team.

Thank you Steven and Deondray! We are certain that you will have rewarding careers ahead of you.
