So I watched episode 1 of the Orville and episode 1 of Discovery. I think I might check out episode 2 of the Orville. As for Discovery, I think I'll pass, it just didn't grab me at all, it was too dark, too slow and the reimaging of an established franchise was just too jarring, nothing looked right.

I hate it when sci-fi stories try to explain how something works and come up with an answer that is known to be wrong. The Honourverse has short range FTL communication that works on gravitational pulses. Except that it is known that gravity propagates at the speed of light, so their gravitational pulses would not give them FTL communication.

I Recently read the Black Witch by Laurie Forrest. I picked it up after hearing about the twitter storm surrounding it. And what I found was that said twitter storm was entirely without merit. Yes this book does deal with fantasy racism. But in no way does it endorse it. Rather it condens it as we watch the main character slowly, break free from childhood indoctrination and become part the resistance.

I really wanted to like Valerian, but now that I've seen it, it was the OK, but it was no Fifth Element, and some of the dialoge was really, really bad.

Question: Can you lose a contact lens in your eye?
Answer:: Scarily yes. I lost my lens about 2 weeks ago. I thought it was still in there so I went to an optometrist. He examined my eye and swore that there was definitely no sign of it. It just popped out into my finger a few minutes ago. So yeah I'm a little freaked out by this.

Is there a complete set of Errata for the print edition of ICRPG available anywhere?

Well, I ran the first adventure for my kids using the heavily modified version of Index Card RPG, and it worked quite well. Now I need to prep for a second. What this all tells me that for me, the lightest systems work the best, otherwise there is just so much prep work that:

a) my kids get bored of it.
b) we never end up playing.

Off the cuff mini adventures with simple rules that don't need explaining simply work better.

Somebody, please tell my that the Prime Minister of Australia didn't really say: "The laws of mathematics are very commendable, but the only law that applies in Australia is the law of Australia."

My contact lenses are finally right. They are feeling comfortable in my eyes and they have the right strength to let me actually see both up close and in the distance. The two sets where too stong, and while the let me see at a distance they made it hard to read.
