Huge blue field spanning from Poland to Great Britan over Sweden. I guess planning this was not that easy, especially for that link crossing Poland, Germany and the Netherlands. Chapeau!

Operation Varus

GERMAN VERSION / ENGLISH VERSION BELOW
---

Ausfallende Fahrer in einzelnen Teams, plötzliche Absagen etc.

Was wäre ein Feldbau ohne Gegenwehr?

ENGLISH VERSION

The idea

To build a control field over Germany’s largest and Europe’s fifth largest urban agglomeration (The Ruhr Region) with as many layers as possible. While using anchor portals that are in remote locations and abroad (Venray (NL), Teutoburg Forest and Sauerland).

Organizing a few things

Recruiting agents from the Netherlands to Lower Saxony to the southeast of North Rhine-Westphalia and from everywhere in between isn’t an easy task, but fortunately we all share the same spirit in our faction, when it comes to building a nice big control field. Of course, it’s not going to happen without the usual chaos. Last minute additions to the teams, last minute drop outs of drivers and operators, that had to be replaced. But, everything went smoothly due to committed agents that filled in at short notice. In the end, we had more agents and operators than needed, and an even higher fun factor.

Final preparations

Barbecue at the anchors, barbecue in the link corridor, barbecue at the operator’s headquarters. No army can fight on an empty stomach. Many of our about one hundred agents braced themselves with a decent meal before the fight.

The operators prepared themselves by redecorating the living room with six computer screens, while the cleaners were still enjoying their BBQ until the action began But then, the action began.

Close to Duisburg, a place that isn’t really known for it’s unspoiled countryside, our agents observed a few fireflies that were illuminating the scene in the color of our faction and put them into the right mood.

The action

In the absence of resistance by the Resistance, two of our teams near Ratingen had to be kept busy with building local fields to prevent themselves and their operator from falling asleep. Local team members and agents from far away had a lot of time to get to know each other. Meeting new agents and barbecuing seemed to be an important part of the operation, after all!

Finally, there was a Smurf that noticed the activity of some Frogs outside of their usual area, but surprisingly that didn’t lead to any disruption of our cleaning teams. Quite the opposite was the case, since one of the Smurfs in Wuppertal proved to be a great help to us, by taking down the remaining green links that blocked our southern corridor, thus saving us a lot of ADAs. The area in which all the layers were supposed to be build was cleaned earlier that day by a couple of Smurfs, as well. Saving us a bunch of ADAs, too.
A few minutes after 4 a.m. it was happy linking time, filled with Illuminator Medals, Level-ups and millions of mind units. The perfect time of the day to enlighten the dawn with the Varus-Field.

Final thoughts

RES agents, that were trying to put up a little resistance, even though it was the middle of the night: you deserve our respect!. You brought a little bit more excitement and action into the game. What would building fields be without anyone putting up at least some fightback? Thanks for that! Lessons learned: Sometimes a field looks big on the scanner, because it is a big field...
Thanks to all agents, those who were not part of the action, but cooperated by ceasing their building activities.  And, of course, thanks to all Agents that were part of the action. Special thanks to our Dutch friend, with whom cooperation internationally is always a great pleasure. You were all AWESOME!!! We are looking forward to the next time.
Quote of the day, from one of many hangouts that were used by the cleaners, after the checkpoint:” …and what are we going to build now?”

Stats

20 layers ~3.3 million mind units each / ~66 million mind units in total
By the time the last Frog ran out of keys and left the battle field, a total of 30 layers were built.
Largest layer: 3,404,144 mind units

So freeeeaking true... What about an "bought an Anker"-Badge (Onyx = 15 Ankers, since they wear quickly I'm on 5 now. Maybe +2 for an "Ingress"-Anker?)? Or a "New Smartphone, which now is fast enough for Ingress"-badge? 5 for Platin would be fine.. At least, that's the amount of upgrades I followed in ~2 years to play Ingress, since became more ressource-greedy by a factor of 2^n with every 1.nX update. (Oh dammit, why did I spoil them with new ideas. They might eventually become true!)
