I've started my Christmas stock (i.e. the small pieces available at accessible prices). This is the first one. Wait 'till I get revving up! ;)

Coming up with a solution to Wednesday's problem...
So, not having had time to go and buy new Steam-A-Seam II (there's no place close to me that has it), I had to come up with an alternative solution. I had some bits of already fused fabric in black - mostly wool which w...

I keep forgetting to tell you, I'm in the September/October issue of Cloth Paper Scissors. It's a great magazine (I'd say that even if I weren't in it!) so please pick up a copy. :)

Likes doing stuff to fabric... (and parenthetical references).
Introduction
I'm an artist whose medium is textile, paint, and stitch.

My work is informed by my childhood, and the themes and imagery that run throughout my primarily narrative work include figures from fairy and folktales, beings from my childhood fancies and  the flora and fauna of the Canadian Shield whose  dense foliage provides the landscape for these creatures to flourish in.

Occasionally, I veer away from my main work to pursue a better understanding of how I feel about the world around us. These make up the pieces in the "Whitewashed" series; which seeks to promote equality and social justice.

The Whitewashed pieces are created in maelstrom of emotion: passion, sadness, outrage, fear and often, anger - springing to life with little conscious direction. As E.M. Forster said: "How will I know what I think until I see what I say?"

It is my hope that both my narrative work and the Whitewashed series will draw in the viewer and transmit something of my intent to them -  whether pleasure or happiness, remembrance or discomfort: if my work ignites a response, I hope it will remind viewers of something that matters to them.
