Google Chairman Eric Schmidt Is Baffled About the Lack of Women in Tech

I think +Eric Schmidt needs to know about +Blue Maestro and how we are using technology to bring innovation to the market!

Nothing to do with the billion dollar games industry still portraying woman as large-breasted eye-candy.

No, I don't suppose that would have much to do with it at all.

As a premier female-focused event, Catalyst features inspiring keynotes from powerful female leaders, sage advice on innovation and technology, and a platform to exchange ideas, connect with other influential women, and create lasting relationships that could have considerable impact on the technology industry at large.

Has anyone been to this event in past years?  I have heard rely good things about it and would like to know more.

Incredibly Cool Gadgets

New gadgets quickly enter the market and we see fast, widespread adoption. Ten years ago, no one heard of an iPhone. Today, you’d be hard-pressed to go about your day without seeing one.

While most gadgets won’t match the success of the iPhone, they may very well win over your heart and transform your life. And even if they don’t, who doesn’t love learning about impressive – and previously unimaginable – technology?

Thank you +TechnologyTell for sharing our #babies   #pacifier

14 smart products for the Internet of Toddlers

Everything is becoming increasingly connected, after all. Your clothes, your appliances, your cars… so why not now your offspring?

The Internet of Things (IoT) has been gaining quite a bit of attention as of late, most prominently around the home, cars and even wearables. This rise of connected devices will undoubtedly lend a hand to caregivers, ushering in a new era of data-driven, quantified parenting.

Whether you are or have been the parent of a newborn, you know just hard it can be. Infants aren’t able to provide the kind of feedback you might desperately wish for after countless hours of nursing and sleepless nights. Unfortunately, babies can’t tell you exactly how they feel, what they want or why they are upset — other than crying, obviously. As the IoT continues to evolve, we can expect to see a growing number of innovations focused around enhanced safety and convenience for those with children.

Good news, parents. Connectivity is about become your next best friend. Here are some of the smart products making that happen!

Tech City International Women’s Day Showcase

This yearly event on March 6th (6-9pm) showcases the work of women in technology and the creative industries in and around East London’s technology cluster. Last year, we had over 100 attendees and 14 exhibitors.

This year’s exhibitors (over 20) will show off innovative wearable art installations, how to buy local fashion, books to inspire young girls, smart pacifiers, ways of making your office more inclusive, a feminist newsletter, a magazine and many more.

Attendees are treated to craft beer, wine, live music and lovely nibbles from a women-led food business.

All proceeds from ticket sales go to Solace Women’s Aid a local charity that helps women and children suffering from domestic abuse.

I’m reaching out as we are looking for sponsors to cover the costs of this non-profit event and offer both attendees and exhibitors a great experience. Last year we had support from a number of individuals and the space was offered by Lyst, an online fashion site in East London.

This year I would like to make things bigger and better. We’re looking to raise a total of £2K to cover the cost of a bigger venue, AV, catering and goodie bags for attendees. If you would like to chat about contributing in any way to covering those costs, I’d love to talk about how we can collaborate.

Let me know if this is something you’d be interested in discussing please contact Alexandra Deschamps-Sonsino,  Ana Bradley & Becky Stewart

Many thanks,

See you there!

It's Member Spotlight Day and we have someone super special!

Today we want to introduce you to ! If you haven’t met Heather yet, then you will be thanking us for this intro.

Heather is sweet, funny and so adorable that you want to squeeze her cheeks. And knowing her, she might just let you do that. But beware she is usually armed with scissors, possibly some craft glue and she could secretly be a ninja with a knitting needle. So, maybe we should just leave any cheek business out of it for now.

If you want to know more about this HoA hosting crafting Ninja, then click on over to our RCUWomen Spotlight page to read what we have to say about her.

Surrounded by a bevy of creative supplies, Heather Kraafter smilingly challenges you to look away while her hands deftly manipulate paper, paint and other mediums into unique works of art. But try as hard as you might, you cannot turn your back on her guileless giggles, her …

Some people never go out of style.

This week we want to share a delicious, beautiful woman with you!

+Ande Lyons is known for her #Andelicious  advice.

Ande’s ‘entrepreneurial boot-camp experience’ began in the 1980s when she worked directly with CEOs of small businesses. The knowledge and insights she gained during this period laid the groundwork upon which she would build her own entrepreneurial empires in the future!
A minor tryst with the corporate world in the late eighties reaffirmed that the ‘safe world of flashy suits’ was too boring for our daring go-getter. So she traded the comfort of the corner office for the front seat of the pothole-ridden trek called entrepreneurship – this time, forever.

Blue Maestro are attending the Harrogate International Nursery Fair
(29th-31st March 2015)

Blue Maestro are attending the Harrogate International Nursery Fair this year to exhibit our new product Pacif-i, the world’s first bluetooth pacifier. With a temperature sensor built into the pacifier’s silicon teat, Pacif-i transmits temperature data via Bluetooth Smart to a free app on an iOS or Android smartphone or tablet. Via the app, parents can record when medication was administered, set-up alerts and reminders and share the data with carers and medical professionals. Pacif-i also features an in-built proximity sensor that allows parents to monitor the pacifier’s location and so be alerted when their child wanders off.

Harrogate Nursery Fair is the UK's premier nursery trade event attracting almost every manufacturer and supplier of baby goods in the UK, along with numerous companies from around the world, making this a great place for Blue Maestro to exhibit. Established for 43 years, the show has the deserved reputation as the first port of call for retailers and buyers looking for new and innovative baby products from pregnancy, baby goods and accessories to wheeled goods, infant car seats and nursery furniture.

If you are attending the fair, please come and visit Blue Maestro at Stand HP116.

Basic Information
Looking for
I spent fifteen years in primary schools until I decided that juggling three small children and a full time career was not what I wanted.
The internet of things, wearable technologies and appcessories are currently amongst the hottest tech topics. There is a constant stream of great and innovative devices in these areas as well as some which are more interesting than truly practical. My company, Blue Maestro,,  is developing a range of products in this area. Our products all have a unique design edge and have been designed to be truly practical. Our first was released in December 2013 and is a Bluetooth Smart thermometer, hydrometer and barometer which is compatible with iOS and Android and has a design unlike any environmental monitoring device ever seen. My perspective of life has been created from the experiences I have had travelling around the world and from my upbringing in a large family.  I taught firstly in NZ and then in Inner City London schools for fifteen years.  I loved teaching, crafting individuals to be responsible individuals who think for themselves and make informed decisions.
Bragging rights
As well as building a successful business, I am mummy to three small very active girls. I also find time to moderate the re:DESIGN community. I am planting a vegetable garden too!
Co-Founder, Marketing Director of Blue Maestro and former Deputy Primary School Head teacher
Constantly on the go! Energetic, enthusiastic, hardworking, organised, communicator, coffee, tea and cooking!
