The Kirkley hotel is fantastic, business or travel. The hotel offers all amenities one can ask for, room s are beautiful and tastefully decorated. I so happened to check in the room pictured on the hotel's website, #515. The indoors pool and outdoors patio are fantastic. The Crown for the hotel is the Great Room, not withstanding its decor and bar/lounge setup, the menu is [smart]. You want calories? You got them, you want none? No problem. For the Road Warrior, the Great Room offers a "Road Warrior" option at $15.99. You pick any appetizer, entree and dessert from the menu and voila. What's the difference, you get to taste the wonderful selection in smaller portions! The service, is impeccable, friendly professional, not over-the-top. Your visit tot he Great Room is likely to be topped off with a visit from the Chef. Wine selection is great and I cannot overlook to point out, the tap selection of 17 local beers. The Hotel was Nice as far as being clean. It took about 45 minutes to check in due to staff talking and saying they had slow computers. I understand making a little bit of money but the hotel knew that a christian event was going on and other hotels were booked so therefore raise the prices of the rooms to $250.00 per room per night with no breakfast. Breakfast was $15.00 Per person and it wasn't much to eat. My friend that was with me made the reservations and when doing so they told the clerk that we had 6 people (4 in one room and 2 in the other). She gave him the prices over the phone and when we arrived they told him it would be an extra $20.00 due to he had 4 people in one room. This wasn't told to him while making reservations.

Customer service is not their specialty. This hotel is a mess! If you register through Price Line or a secondary source you will be treated as a second class purchaser. The attitude is ingrained in their employees as well. Repeatedly I heard "pay directly to the hotel next time." Hotel did not follow through on their amenities (breakfast, discounts, service and shuttle service), too many exceptions to the rule...in other words it will only apply under their criteria, especially if you do not pay direct. Why participate with other vendors to advertise your name, if your going to punish customers for using the service? Room service failed to clean my room, rather than giving "apologies lets get it fixed," excuses were made. I approached manager (Austin), informed him I was not happy...he shrugged his shoulders. Then, the drama continues! The hotel fire alarm went off at midnight. Everyone scuffled down the stairwell, doors to other floors were locked! If there had been a fire, and entry into another floor was needed, it would not have been possible. You always need an alternative route, and options during a fire. Since we all know elevators cannot be used. No fire escape route signs or information were not posted. Windows were locked and could not be opened. I called 911 for guidance, turns out 911 had not been called by hotel! All of the 5th floor finally exited outside in our pajamas, and walked around to the front entrance. Admin gathered everyone around front entrance and demands everyone go back to their rooms. You would think customers awoken at midnight during a fire alarm, struggled to find an exit, faint smell of smoke, and fire trucks present deserved a better explanation then "go back to your rooms." It was hard to sleep! Later that morning hotel leaves a note under our door, explaining the situation. "An apparent air pocket in sprinkler system," which I highly doubt. For days I had complained of a faint smell of smoke coming from the bathroom vent. Of course it was ignored. I have to say what bothered me the most was the ill treatment and attitude toward my African American roommate. She and I were rooming during a week long intensive. It was the first time we had met. We were both way from our families, and in Lynchburg to further our higher education at Liberty. She never complained towards any ill treatment or indifference that was demonstrated towards her. She was treated as though she was a 2nd class citizen. Her forgiving personality demonstrated an exemplary attitude, which I admired throughout the week. It is important to always make your customer happy, so when your not at your best during a fire, poor service, poor middle management and failed expectations...we can work together. That was never built. Beautiful hotel, with character, but sometimes the cover will mean absolutely nothing at all! I have stayed at the other hotels at Lynchburg with less of a fancy cover, I'm going back to them. For me customer service and the integrity of good will to all humanity is the greatest virtue God expects from his people.

I am very picky and was nervous based on the Google reviews here. Let me say that first, it is obvious that the owner does read these and take them into consideration. Many of the issues written about have been resolved. I rarely return to hotels, and am choosy about where to drop my $100 or more per night. The Kirkley makes me hope I need to come back to Lynchburg again. We are crazy about it! It is beautiful and comfortable. If you look at the price point of the hotel, it is spot on. Clearly the owner has taken a dated property and treated it with TLC to make it a luxurious spot. There is no denying it is an older building, but it has been updated with love, style, and a sense of humor. The furniture is high quality both in and out of the room, there are mirrors and gilding and chandeliers, and the door number plaques have quirky photographs of Virginia farm dogs. I was really happy to find that the windows open. You get upscale treatment for less than the price of rude, stinky, less special spots with fewer amenities. We also saw them setting up for several weddings and the facilities were beautiful. The staff is amazing, especially the servers in the restaurant and Andrew at the front desk. They repeatedly went out of their way to make us comfortable and to make my son happy. I can see little things that need to be updated but you must remember you are not staying in a corporate hotel. It felt like the quirks and comfort of a B&B with the efficiency and amenities of a hotel. We loved the little touches such as the attention to design details, the ribbons on our towels, the bathroom suite downstairs, and the fountains. We never felt like we were suffocating or had no where to run. The pool was clean, comfortable, and had ample seating around it. I loved seeing my classmates every morning at breakfast, since the hotel has a big draw for Liberty intensive students due to free breakfasts and a special rate. Breakfast is slightly limited but the speed and smiles with which it is delivered make up for it. Thank you to the Kirkley for pleasing this tough crowd!!

Stayed 2 nights at this hotel. From the outside it doesn't look very nice, but the lobby, restaurant and rooms are all newly renovated and aesthetically appealing. The staff was friendly and always helpful. We had a slight issue with the room not being 100% cleaned (some clothing on the floor behind a chair), but a quick call to the front desk had the cleaning staff to the room in minutes. It's a good location for visiting Historic Lynchburg, Appomattox Courthouse, and the National D-Day Memorial. I would recommend this hotel.

this is the best hotel i've ever stayed at breakfast is always 2 hot cooked items and the buffet always has fresh fruit and muffins plus cold milk and cereal this really is a one of kind hotel not much like anything else. I wish they had more locations but this is not a big chain hotel your going to find like Hilton or Holiday inn. they are unique and cheap, they run about the same price as a Candlewood Suite 89$ a night is the rate I usually get with my company

My stay at the Kirkley Hotel was outstanding. Very nice and professional staff and caring to boot. I came in looking for a room at off hours as I was working during 8pm to 4am and needing a room after that. They were the first to accommodate me after calling 7 hotels in the Lynchburg area. Thank you again for being so thoughtful. Will be back and will let my corporation know about you.

The hotel is beautiful, but I had some trouble with blocking my group of rooms for my wedding. When my guests called, the hotel couldn't even find my name. Then they said they would honor a certain price, but the general manager went back on his employee's word and then said he wouldn't. It was a huge mess I did not need as a bride. Frustrating.
