12,000 youth out here practicing for the cultural celebration to celebrate the dedication of a new LDS Temple in Gilbert Arizona. An amazing sight!

We went hiking today. Laura ended up having to carry Trixie around because Trixie got too tired to make it the entire way.

We finally made it home from Texas. Our drive out took 20.5 hours to get to Dallas because of the bad ice and snow and accidents. We saw several trucks turned completely upside down or hanging off overpasses. There were a few car accidents, but mostly trucks.

On our way back today we got a flat tire about 35 miles outside of Lordsburg NM. The closest tire place in Lordsburg closes at 5:00 pm and we didn't make it there in time, so we drove from the scene to our house going 50 miles an hour the entire way with our flashers on. That easily added 2.5 hours on to the drive.

We're glad to be back safe and sound. It's always nice to go out and spend time with family, but we're excited to be back in our own beds again. I hope everyone else had a safe and enjoyable holiday!

This is right outside my sister's house. Her and her husband are thinking about buying this land.

OK, this is what I've wanted for quite some time. It might finally be time to upgrade to premium.

The beta version of Jogger 2.0 is coming along nicely! I had the accuracy turned up just to get random movement. The following is part of a new feature to auto post your run to Google+ when you're done. It takes a snapshot of the map too.

I just ran 0.13 miles.
I burned 7.56 calories.
My average speed was 2.56 mph.

Today we went to Pecan Lodge for lunch. Sadly, someone bought all their beef ribs so we didn't get to try those.

Their jalapeño cheddar sausage was fantastic. It was a mouth full of delicious flavors that blended perfectly. I would definitely get those again.

The brisket had a great bark to it and the fat was rendered down nicely. The fat wasn't trimmed down as much in some places, but that's a bit picky on my part. There were some places where it was trimmed just right and the fat rendered down to that nice caramel like fat. Overall the brisket was extremely moist and it had a flavor I would go back for frequently if I lived in Dallas.

I went out back with the owner and he showed me his smoker. We talked about how he got started and transitioned to smoking meats from a southern cooking place. Their indirect smoker pulls air in from the bottom of the fire pit and the ash falls into buckets underneath which I thought was cool.

If you haven't been to Pecan Lodge in Dallas, you should take the time to make the visit. We got there at 10:00 and there was already a line. Make sure you get there early or you'll be stuck eating the dregs (which are probably awesome dregs anyway).

I found 4 new root beers today at a gas station in the middle of nowhere that also happens to sell the most disgusting drink in the world: bacon soda. Not to be confused with baking soda.

I'll write up on each of these as I give them a try. We'll see if a gem was found or not.

I recently tried their brisket and pork at the Great American BBQ and Beer Festival. I asked for a brisket sample with extra bark. These guys claim to be Texas BBQ, but the meat I tried looked like they didn't use any kind of rub at all to form a good Texas bark. Beyond not having a good bark, the brisket was extremely dry. It looked like we got pieces of the point to which I don't even understand how the point could even get so dry. I should not ever *want* to put BBQ sauce on brisket. Good Texas style brisket can stand on its own without a need for sauce. I will never pass up trying a new BBQ place, but I can confidently say I will not go back to this place if they can't fix these issues. I had some of their pulled pork too and it was just as dry. When the saliva in your mouth is sucked into the meat as you eat it, there's a problem.
