You don't have to be from Western Pennsylvania to appreciate "Pittsburgh Dad." Thanks to its popularity on YouTube (where else?), Pittsburgh local TV news station WTAE did this story. h/t to my brother (a news producer at WTAE) for sending me this clip. I do love yinz accent! See you at Christmas :)
A new series about a stereotypical Pittsburgh father is attracting tens of thousands of online viewers.

Yes, this is a great deal from Google Offers -- $7 for a 2012 Zagat print guide -- but it's interesting because Google bought Zagat a few months ago. What will we see Google do with Zagat next?

I love what people are doing with Kinect -- has to be the most innovative (and most underrated) product Microsoft has ever made. This is the best place I've found to discover cool hacks...are there others? http://www.kinecthacks.com/

Really enjoyed talking to +Seth Blank about Trove. I agree that someone (maybe Trove, maybe another company) will make the permissions-for-personal-data process much easier for developers and consumers. Personally, I can't stand using Facebook Connect and want a better solution NOW!

Clever idea to set up an incubator on a ship in international waters so immigrant entrepreneurs can be close to the Bay Area but not need more than a regular business visa to access the mainland. I just wish the U.S. immigration system wasn't so effed up -- with better policies for high-skilled/entrepreneurs, this wouldn't be necessary. And I think the business model for this floating incubator is super risky at worst, a long shot at best. http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news/2011/11/startup-hopes-to-hack-the-immigration-system-with-a-floating-incubator.ars

Zite CEO +Mark Johnson thinks Microsoft will get into the social reader space next year. I can see that happening, but I wonder if it will be too late, even for the company that killed Netscape and that has managed to nip at Google with Bing.

The LAUNCH team focused on Amazon this week -- first the rumor that the company is opening retail stores, then a look at its white-label products and why Bezos is the next Jobs, and today a look at Amazon competitor +Walmart, which will eventually go all white-label in its offerings, a source familiar with the company told us. Things are going to get very interesting, that's for sure.

There's no question the Android market is growing and popular apps that were iPhone-only have Android versions (Path is a biggie, Instagram's is in the works). So will app developers have no choice but to make Android apps, and maybe make them before iOS ones? Although I'm not a developer I like how Instapaper creator Marco Arment is questioning the "whether you like it or not" tone from Google exec chairman +Eric Schmidt.

Definitely makes him more real....which means good PR for Zuck. He is smart enough NOT to put compromising photos on his own service.

Props to my old crew at the Migration Policy Institute for a great "Top 10 Migration Issues of 2011" edition of the Migration Information Source! I'm not surprised to see the Arab Spring represented twice in this list, with its effect on European immigration policy the top issue of the year.
