What do you think, color or mono? Two different shots of the same place... either would need some more finicky editing (there's a bit of a white halo along the sky edge and I think the rocks in the mono image could use some lightening). The shape of the rocks made me think very much of a petrified dragon, and I want the image to reflect the sort of slow menace of that idea.

14 Best of 2014

Sadly I didn't get much photography done this year, but I did have a kid so that probably balances out. ;)

Spent the weekend at Voinovo Polya (Battle Field) festival south of Moscow. I wasn't able to do as much photography as I was hoping - camping while 7 months pregnant is not so easy - but I'm happy with what I did get, especially the night photos.

Termessos is an ancient ruined city near Antalya, Turkey, but off the usual tourist track (there were perhaps 15 people in the park when I visited, and 5 hours there wasn't enough time to see everything). Sitting on top of a mountain, it was never looted for building materials and has not been excavated; earthquakes caused the damage you see. The site is very hard to reach; even Alexander the great went around it rather than try to conquer the city.

I was featured on the Photoshelter blog today! (They provide websites for photographers with print on demand and stock sales built in.) One of my photos from Istanbul in 2010 is on there. http://blog.photoshelter.com/2013/09/24-best-places-photograph-worldwide/

Stokkur, a small geyser in Iceland, between eruptions. Just loved the colors and textures on it!

Bought a secondhand Sigma 10-20mm f3.5 for my Canon 60D today. After I picked it up I went to the nearest park and shot for about an hour and a half. Unfortunately, about 2 minutes in an elderly local English teacher glommed on to me and, asked if I minded her practicing her English with me for a bit, and then followed me around for the next hour and a half. Nice lady but I couldn't get to the backwoods parts of the park because she seemed determined to follow wherever I went and I didn't want to end up dealing with her breaking her hip in the back woods. Anyway, I'm very happy with the lens but going to super wide angle feels a little like learning a new instrument - composing for it seems to require a very different way of thinking. Any recommendations for articles or tutorials?

Oh, and I got invited to the elderly lady's next choir concert.
