How do I feel about having my book listed in such a list "Top 10 Books about Kenya"? I am still trying to wrap my head around it.

First of all, it scares me. To be listed among international acclaimed writers that I grew up reading, Ngugi wa Thiong'o, Meja Mwangi, Marjorie Oludhe Macgoye, John Kiriamiti is scary. How did I get here? The youngest son of one of the poorest families in my school, the smallest and thinnest boy in the class with nothing going for him, living with four siblings and a single mother in a one roomed house that stood next to a cattle pen in a small town - how? How? I didn't even dream of being here - all I wanted, when I wrote the story, was to see my book on the display window of a bookshop. It was only when my publisher told me I would make millions that I started seeing the financial viability of it....

It humbles me. It means that I have to do better, be better. That I can aspire to be more, and to help others. Because my journey is just beginning. What I have now is a platform to catapult me to the next level.

And it shows me that the opportunities are endless. There is no limit. 'The Last Villains of Molo' was written under very trying circumstances. I had zero resources, and had to depend on friends like Dorothy Mudola to type the manuscript for me (a debt which I can't even pay), and at one time had to beg the university Vice Chancellor to grant me access to a computer (that story has been told elsewhere ). For it to be here is a triumph against a lot of adversity. If I can make it, anyone else can.

I have always felt that if I knew that my book would go the far it has, I'd probably have spent more time polishing it up. Then I know that maybe it wouldn't be the same. Maybe it would never have been written.

In the meantime, I keep writing, no matter what.
