This really isn't a great advertisement to convince New South Welshman to holiday in qld! You know people don't have a sense of humour when it comes to this topic!

Kingfisher Bay Resort nestles among tree-covered dunes on the edge of the Great Sandy Strait. The Fraser Island resort opened in 1992 and was designed to integrate with the environment, not impose upon it. Resort activities allow guests to enjoy and learn about the island, without impacting on the environment. Guests can go whale watching, canoe, sail, swim or fish. Full-day group or personalised tours visit the island's top attractions in air-conditioned comfort.

We stayed two nights at the Kingfisher Resort. This is only a review about the hotel and not about Fraser Island. The island self, especially the famous Lake McKenzie is spectacular and need no extra words. We were at the Kingfisher Resort 20 years ago. A that time, the resort was beautiful and one of our favorites. Now, the hotel is the same and that's +/- the problem. Our room was only soft renovated and the bathroom is old. Some cockroaches disturbed our room experience. The resort self is neat but also a bit old-fashioned. Some restaurants are only open at the weekend, the food quality is ok. The bar at the pier was great, especially at sunset. All in all, our stay was ok, not more not less.

Great place. Biggest mistake was not staying longer. It would be nice if one of the restaurants were air conditioned. Wifi should be included. We would go again.
Response from the owner - 4 months ago
Hi Larry, Thanks so much for your kind words and for taking the time to share your review. We will be sure to take your feedback on board to improve our experience for our guests in future. We're pleased you enjoyed your time with us and look forward to welcoming you back to Fraser Island again soon.

Had a nice stay but have been there before and it isn't as good as it used to be, I think its been taken over by a different chain. Room was nice enough but bathroom had paint peeling off the ceiling, don't think it had been redecorated since I was last there 5 years ago. Most annoying thing for me is that the pool now closes at 9pm, the late night swims and hot tubs used to be one of the nicest bits, especially after a few beers, now its gone all nanny state. Food was pretty good but nothing special given the price

Reasonable price, clean, good food (great buffet for breakfast which is included in price). Great outside area with a huge swimming pool. The only resort on Fraser Island and I think it should stay this way as Fraser Island is on World heritage.
Response from the owner - a week ago
Thanks so much for taking the time to give us your feedback Rachid. We look forward to welcoming you back to Fraser Island again soon.

Two bedroom villa is disgraceful. Don't know if they are all loke this but it smells like old mouldy dead things, houses humongous huntsmans, is dark, very old fashioned and generally just feels unclean. Looks nothing like the photos! The resort overall does not look very well maintained and definitely needs some TLC.
Response from the owner - 4 months ago
Thanks for your feedback Hayley, given the amount of very positive reviews our property receives, it is disappointing to hear your stay with us failed to impress and for that we sincerely apologise. We will take your feedback on board and ensure this is passed to our managers to follow up as soon as possible.

The hotel itself is in a fantastic place and offers some great activities, however having to pay for WiFi and the ferry makes me wonder what you are actually paying for considering its the most expensive place on the island. Great hotel that completely cheapens itself
Response from the owner - 4 months ago
Hi Freddie, Thanks for taking the time to provide us with your feedback, we are pleased to hear you enjoyed your time at the resort and the activities we have to offer our guests. Due to our location we provide our own internet connection between Fraser Island & the mainland which has limited capacity and apologise that for this reason it has not been possible to extend this as complimentary throughout the resort.

Had a great time here. The dingos were fairly close, but seemed to keep their distance. The little nightclub on top of the hill was fun too ☺

We're glad to hear you had such a great time Rohan- we hope to see you again soon!
