Pro Tip: Creating Polls

When you want to learn what others think about a particular topic, it’s great to use a survey or poll. With the recent launch of Polls by Google+, you can now poll your connections. To create a poll that will draw in votes, keep these things in mind:

➩ Who your target market is.
➩ What are they talking about and will share an opinion on.
➩ Keep it short, simple and to the point.
➩ Include a short description for the poll.
➩ Including an image draws attention to it.

What’s next?

Thanks for all of your questions and insights this week. Special thanks to everyone who helped respond to these trending topics this week. Make sure to check back again next week where +Ray Hiltz will help to highlight the best questions and answers on the community.

This Week In The Google+ Help Community
Everything you wanted to know about Google+ Photos on your phone but were afraid to ask!

Welcome to the Google+ Help Weekly Report, where we discuss a trending topic within the Google+ Help Community! This week I’ve noticed a lot of questions regarding deleting and restoring photos in Google+, whether you’re on your computer or your phone.

Turning Auto Backup on and off.

First of all, you should be aware that Google+ has an Auto Backup feature that works with the Google+ app on your phone to automatically copy any photos you take on the phone into your Google+ account on Google’s servers. This allows you to easily share photos you’ve taken on the phone to your Google+ circles, even if you’re accessing them through the computer, and it also provides an excellent cloud backup of all your photos to help you avoid losing them in case something happens to your phone. To use the Auto Backup, as well as see additional information about its features, follow the directions found at https://support.google.com/plus/answer/1647509?hl=en

Controlling which folders on the phone are automatically backed up.

You can control whether photos in folders other than the Camera folder should be backed up and, if so, which folders. To enable/disable Auto Backup for folders other than the Camera folder, touch the 3-dot icon in the upper right hand corner of the Photos app, select Settings, select Auto Backup, and make sure there is a check after Back up local folders. To select which local folders you want photos to be Auto Backed up from, return to the main screen of the Photos app, swipe from the left side of screen, scroll down to On Device, and select folders by using the cloud icon to the right of each folder name. If it is blue, Auto Backup is enabled for the folder. If it is gray with a line through it, Auto Backup is disabled.

Deleting local and online copies of photos in the Google+ Photos app:

If you want to delete photos entirely from Google+ on your phone and on Google’s servers, in the Google+ app, go to Everything, and then, at the bottom, go to Photos. Find the first photo you want to delete under "All" and long press the first to select it, then select any others. Touch the bin icon at the top right to delete from your phone and online.

Deleting local copies of photos in the Google+ Photos app:

If, on the other hand, you just want to delete the copies of the photos on the phone while leaving them in your Google+ account on the servers you’ll use these instruction. When in the Photos app on the phone, touch the Photo symbol at the top left to bring up the menu, then go to On Device. Find the "Camera" folder, then touch the folder name to open it up. If you delete photos from there, only the local copy will be deleted.

Restoring Photos in the Google+ Photos app:

In the Photos app on the phone, touch the Photo symbol at the top left to bring up the menu, then go to Bin (you may need to scroll down). Find the image(s) you want to restore, then long press on it. A menu bar will appear; the sideways u shaped arrow next to the bin will restore the photo. When this menu is up, you can select more photos and restore them. This will restore the photo to your phone and your backups or albums.

Restoring Auto-backup photos to your phone:

In case you’ve deleted photos from your phone but want to restore them from your Google+ account back to the phone, you will need to use your desktop or laptop. On your computer, hover over the Home button, and from the menu that appears, go to Photos. Click in the search bar and select Auto-backup. Select the first image by clicking on the checkmark on the top left of the image. You can then scroll down to the last image, hold down shift, and click the checkmark on that one to select all the photos in between. Once you’re in selection mode, with a blue bar above the photos, you can individually select and deselect other photos. Once you have all the photos you want to restore selected, then click on More in the blue bar, and then choose Download. Note that you can only download a maximum of 500 pictures at a time. When the photos have been downloaded, just transfer them to your Camera folder on your phone via USB. Please consult your phone manufacturer’s help documentation to see how that’s done.

You can also use Google Takeout to get all of your photos: https://www.google.com/settings/takeout, but this will download everything, not just the Auto-backup photos.

Tip of the Week: Viewing your Auto Backup photos

Several users asked, and various people answered, “How do I find my photos that were backed up by Auto Backup?” Full instructions for all platforms can be found at https://support.google.com/plus/answer/4528877?hl=en but the quick answer when you’re on your computer is go to https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/search/%23AutoBackup and you’ll see all your Auto Backup photos displayed for you.

Thanks for all of your questions and insights this week. Special thanks to everyone who helped respond to these trending topics and all the other help questions this week. Make sure to check back again next week when +George Cohn will help to highlight the best questions and answers on the community.

This Week In The Google+ Help Community

Focus this week is on Google+ Polls!

Excitement in the air because I'm sharing about one of my favorite parts of Google+, Polls. The focus of Google+ Help Weekly Report is to discuss trending topic within the Google+ Help Community

Using Polls to survey your connections and target market

Have you ever wanted to find out what your connections or target market on Google+ thought about a particular topic? Then you have a ready-made answer that is part of a Google+ post and is called Polls.

Polls can be used to…

☑ Find out the top needs of your target market
☑ Learn how your connections feel about current event
☑ Gather information to include in blog posts
☑ Surveying for the top tips regarding a topic

How to create Polls

Each of these are just simple examples of how you can use polls. Now you might be wondering, how do you create a Poll? I have the answer for you below:

Step #1: visit Google+ and just like when you want to share a post, click the Polls icon on the box “Share what’s new”. It is the last icon. Make sure to include the hashtag #Polls to make it easy for other to find your Poll. By doing this, your Poll will show up in search results on Google+ for anyone looking to complete a Poll.

See the first attached image for the first step.

See the second attached image for the following steps.

Next in Step #2: type in your question where it says “Ask a question”.

If you want to include a photo, you can add one in Step #3 by clicking in the image area. This is optional.

Now you need to add your options or choices for answers in Step #4. This will allow others to give their opinion about your question. The default is for 2 questions.

If you want to add more questions, then you can click on “+More choices” in Step #5. This will allow you to add 3 more options or choices.

Finally, select who you want to have access to your Poll by adding people or circles you have created in Step #6. The default is Public so that everyone can view it. You can always change this to specific people if you want to make it private for only a select group of people.

Learn more about creating and editing polls: http://goo.gl/5wejwJ

Thanks for all of your questions and insights this week, and special thanks to everyone who helped respond to these topics. All the helpers in the community are awesome! Make sure to check back again next week when +Stephan Hovnanian  will talk about what’s happening in the community.

As you know, I'm running Chrome OS on Dev Channel every day and this might scares some of you who want to switch. Don't worry though, if you’re a tech-savvy explorer, craving new features and willing to take a little risk, you should try out the Chrome OS Beta Channel and get the latest features sooner. On the Beta Channel you can test, send feedback to the chrome team, and help shape the future of Chrome OS.

Here's one new feature rolling next week among many on the latest Beta Channel: the Chrome Launcher 2.0.

This new launcher is the best way to start new activities on Chrome OS, like performing a Google search or launching apps.  It's fast, simple, and helps you get things done. Search has been enhanced to help you find what you are looking for faster, apps you most often use right have been put at your fingertips, and the power of Google Now has been brought to your Chromebook.

Have a look at https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!category-topic/chromebook-central/discuss-chrome-os/beta/dH45keXOy5Q to see all the other cool features in the Chrome OS Beta Channel.

This Week In The Google+ Help Community
The Android App Troubleshooting Edition!

Every now and then, an app will misbehave. Sometimes it’s because of data, the connection, or another app conflicting.

If it’s the Google+ app that is misbehaving, there are a few things that can be done to see what is happening.

To get to the screen below, go to your phone’s Settings app, then Apps, then find Google+.

Ignore Force Stop option. That isn’t something to use.

Uninstall Updates will help to force the download of the latest version of the app. If you’re not getting an update, or an update fails to install, then use that option.

Disable will disable the app. But you LOVE Google+, so you won’t do that ;)

Clear Data will clear and reset the app. All data with the app will be wiped, and when the app is run, it will be as if it has been run for the first time. WARNING! This may cause a spike in your data usage. Only do this if you’re on an unlimited connection.

Clear Cache This is the less intensive version of the above, and usually the first thing to try if the app starts misbehaving. This will only clear temporary data that may be interfering with the app.

Tip of the Week

As a bonus, you can also go to Storage from the Settings app, and tap on Cached data. This will clear the caches of all the apps on your Android device :D

Thanks for all of your questions and insights this week. Special thanks to everyone who helped respond to questions this week. Make sure to check back again next week when +Michael Banks will help to highlight the best of the community.

This Week in the Google+ Help Community
Troubleshooting your Google+ Business Pages

Hey everyone! Time for the latest Google+ Help Weekly Report, where we discuss a trending topic within the Google+ Help Community!

We see a lot of instances of page managers trying to access a Google+ business page they’ve taken over, or a page that was created either automatically or by some unknown party. This can be frustrating for sure, so here are some resources and tips to get your pages in order:

1) Set a password - If you are the owner of your Google+ page, you should create a password for it (http://goo.gl/HHGPBA). Go to Settings, and under Third Party Tools you will see a username and the ability to create a password. Do this, and store it somewhere safe. Then you can give the password to new page managers, or easily reset it and access your page. While you’re at it, write down which Google Account owns the page (see #2).

2) Who owns the account? If you are unsure which account you used to set up your Google+ page, and can no longer access it, try sending a private message to it. Hopefully the page is set up to receive emails of posts shared directly with it, and you can scan your various inboxes for that email. Once you’ve found it, log into that Google Account and do Step 1 so you can directly access your page moving forward; and double-check the email address set up for notification delivery (found in Settings). Top Contributor +Jaana Nyström  has a great post on sending a private message here (http://goo.gl/ow7Oxv)

3) Duplicate pages, usually brand and local - Sometimes Google will automatically create a page for your local business based on publicly available location data (directory listings, review sites, etc.). You may already have a claimed local page, or a brand page. Choosing the best way to handle the duplication is something best left to the Google My Business product experts, who you can find here: https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!forum/business

Tip of the Week

Use the search feature on Google+, in Communities, and on Product Forums to see if someone else has answered your question first. Here’s how: (http://goo.gl/DwiUXr)

Thanks for all of your questions and insights this week. Special thanks to everyone who helped respond to these trending topics! Make sure to check back again next week when +Ayoub Khote will help to highlight the best questions and answers in the community.

This Week In The Google+ Help Community

A few tips that focus on Posting, Handling fake accounts and switching pages on Google+ or YouTube!

I’m excited that I get to share tips and techniques for the latest Google+ Help Weekly Report, where we discuss a trending topic within the Google+ Help Community!

Switching between Google+ Pages

If you have more than one Google+ Page, then you may be faced with needing to switch between your pages. There are a few ways to do this.

☑ One of the simplest ways is to hover over the Google+ logo in the top left so that the sliding left sidebar can display.
☑ Then click on Pages which will take you to the section on Google+ where you can access all of the pages you have created and also to create new Google+ pages.

Learn more about Google+ page management: http://goo.gl/cJ6ZmH

Switching between connected Google+ Pages when using YouTube

When using Google+ as a page, sometimes you might need to view or manage a YouTube channel. If you have multiple pages that have their own channel then you might need to switch between channels or pages.

To help you learn more about switching between channels for your pages, there’s a Google Help Guide that can be found here: http://goo.gl/kvn1Q6

Also, if you need further assistance with YouTube, please visit their product forum: http://goo.gl/2gerYz

See the full discussion here: http://goo.gl/LLXSpR

Posting privately on Google+

Sometimes a need may arise where you need to post privately to a single person or a group of people.

☑ In order to do this, you would need to edit the “TO” field at the bottom of the post.
☑ Remove everything and then start typing the name of the person or persons that you want to post privately to.
☑ Remember to re-edit the “TO” field to select Public when you are ready to start back posting publicly.

Learn more about posting to Google+ by visiting: http://goo.gl/JsKcqA

Reporting a fake account

A common question about accounts is how to handle things when you are faced with someone impersonating you are someone you know. Where they have created a fake account on Google+ and proceeded to pretend to be someone they aren’t.

Learn more about reporting fake accounts here: http://goo.gl/xGcMFF

You can read the full discussion here: http://goo.gl/0h3h3H

► Tip of the Week

How to Pin a Post:

Occasionally, you might want to draw attention to a specific post that you have shared. One of the ways you can do this is to pin it on your profile.

☑ To do this, click on the arrow (or chevron) in the upper right of the post.
☑ You will see “Pin post” and when you select this option, your post will be pinned at the top of your profile, just below your profile header area.

Thanks for all of your questions and insights this week. Special thanks to everyone who helped respond to these trending topics and all the other help questions this week.
