Rise and Demise of Bioinformatics? Promise and Progress:

Another important article that discuss on an immediate need for a potential rethinking on redefining priorities of bioinformatics. While I cannot completely agree with "demise" aspects of the article due to several reasons including different answers discussed in BioStars [1-2] and related articles [3-4] I liked the epilogue, especially this part...

"The merging of computation into the fabric of biosciences and biomedicine by 2020, while acquiring a key, critical position amongst other technologies in the toolkit, will possibly necessitate a redefinition of computational biology as a distinct discipline in the not-so-distant future."

[1] Question 1: Is BioInformatics on decline? Only in the web, or also within Institutions?

[2] Question 2: Future directions in Bioinformatics

Take FREE, yes FREE!! online classes from some of the top schools in the nation, in things like Computer Science, Humanities, Engineering, etc.

Participating universities include:
U of Michigan

with more universities signing on all the time. This started less than a year ago, when a Stanford professor decided to try and teach an AI class online. Over a million people signed up, and it was an amazing response.

Continue to educate yourself, for FREE!

And hey, if you want to tell your Mom you're studying humanities from Princeton or Computer Science at Stanford, we won't tell on you!

As an undergraduate at Caltech (1968-72) I had the privilege of knowing Richard Feynman. (Well, "knowing" may be too strong a word. He knew me well enough to nod and once ask me to borrow my date to dance with at a social.) His lectures were inspiring and he was a renowned "rascal" of science, constantly poking at the curtain in order to expose wonder. Now you can tune in and watch seven of his famous lectures on physics.
Richard Feynman was obviously famous for his work as a physicist, but he's also widely regarded as one of the most lucid and effective lecturers to ever address an audience.
