For Her Poop to Bear Its Glassy Green Fruit
She sprinted at me crying. "Daddy! Daddy! I swallowed a toy!" At first, I had no idea what to do. Her crying registered, but the part about the toy hadn't yet. Crap , I thought. My youngest Bryce had been at home with me after I picked her up from preschool...

The Now of Every Beat and Breath
“Winding like an ancient river, The time is now again. Hope is like an ancient river; The time is now again.” —Rush, Ceiling Unlimited There were 42 episodes last year. Not the 52 I had originally planned -- one per week -- but that's because of other prior...
There was no other cast except me. No production team except me. Only one camera to capture one single image per show. On location at Natural Bridges State Beach. One mile walked up to Natural Bridges, two miles running on the beach, one mile walk/run back home. The show's premise was (and still ...

Where the Force Flows with Mindful Christmas Magic
Let's say the probability of any one of 10 total random park entrance lines moving faster than the others is around 10 percent. So we picked one, one that looked as though it fell into that 10 percent, just as we had done the day before. At first it felt as...

The Part Where I'm Lunging In
Towards the end of my first work call, she threw up. I would've heard it anyway prior to turning around in my chair, but turn around I did at the moment she opened her mouth puked on the couch. "I've got to go -- my daughter is throwing up!" I ended the cal...

A New Reason to Give Thanks
"And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air, gave proof through the night that our flag was still there..." — The Star-Spangled Banner The first boom came at 5:28 am. Then a second boom. Followed by a third. I put my laptop to the side and sat up...
The first boom came at 5:28 am. Then a second boom. Followed by a third. I put my laptop to the side and sat up, torn to move in two directions at once: go to the living room window to see what I could see, or go to our phone and call 911. Being an early bird I had already been up since 5:00 am ...

A Jukebox of Our Sweeter Past

built-in bully protection. Before that though, walking home from pre-first (the grade between kindergarten and first grade back in my younger days) was like walking home along the wrong side of the tracks. Tracks that represented the only way I was allowed to walk home from school.

The Only Chasm Between Us Now Is Sleep
“Somewhere in a lonely hotel room There's a guy starting to realize That eternal fate has turn it's back on him. It's 2 A.M.” —Golden Earring, Twilight Zone It's 2 A.M. on day two. Delirium rocks in my arms. She's only about eight months old, but she wakes ...
It's 2 A.M. on day two. Delirium rocks in my arms. She's only about eight months old, but she wakes and cries incessantly about every two hours, and has been off and on for the past four months. She quiets down and I think I'm okay to lay her back down in her crib, the one that's been in our ...

I'll Never Miss a Moment Again

Somewhere over Guyana I started feeling sick. Watching Santa fly over the South American sovereign nation via the Official NORAD Santa Tracker, I could feel my insides churn and flip. I chalked it up to indigestion at first due to our yummy but huge Christmas Eve dinner at home.

When the Bea Stings

The Daddy Day plan was to go to the Seymour Marine Discovery Center, what the girls call the "little aquarium" (we call the Monterey Bay Aquarium the "big aquarium"), and then go to Natural Bridges State Beach and check out the Monarch butterflies. The Mama was away for the day getting some much ...

The Aggregate Power of Our Safety Plans

There are no absolutes. There is no black and white. There are only filtered perceptions and reactions to life experience, the shadows at dusk of what is truly right and wrong. Until I was nine and my sister seven, we lived with an alcoholic who year after year escalated violence against our ...

Author of Tech Job Hunt Handbook
Introduction

I’m currently the Talent Board Vice-President responsible for all aspects of the Candidate Experience Awards program and other Talent Board activites for North America.

I also co-founded the TalentCulture "world of work" community with Meghan M. Biro and continue to develop and co-host the popular weekly TalentCulture #TChat Show (radio show and Twitter chat).

A certified Talent Acquisition Strategist (TAS) and Human Capital Strategist (HCS) by HCI, I have over 17 years of domain expertise and familiarity with the HR and recruiting technology marketplace, including working for and with talent management, talent sourcing and acquisition, video interviewing, assessment, background screening, and training and development providers, helping them to grow and excel their companies.

Before the HR and recruiting technology marketplace, I held multiple leadership positions in B2B and consumer technology marketplace and higher education. My overall business experience includes account management and customer service, marketing, product development, sales, business development, online community management, industry analyst, and being a manager and published writer.

I've also been a top social influencer in leadership, human resources, talent management and recruiting, as well as a prolific "HR business" blogger since 2004. I've also authored multiple articles on marketing, business development, HR, recruiting and leadership, and my first business book titled Tech Job Hunt Handbook was released in December 2012 from Apress. I speak at HR and recruiting industry events and on HR/recruiting/marketing related webinars.

Lastly, I’m an avid reader, a proud father and husband, and write I regularly about responsible parenting at GetOffTheGround.

Bragging rights
Daddy of the B-hive (two girls) and darn proud of it.
