Since me & the math liked Donny Hathaway so much last time, let's get "Misty."

I'd like to point out that although I'm no Donny myself, I do have the same hat. Ain't that something.

30 Great Music Albums, or If All Songs Were Created Equal

I ran a quick and dirty little script on my iTunes library that totalled the number of stars I rated each song for an album and then divided it by the total number of stars available to that album.

This assumes all songs on all albums are created equal (and they're not, just ask the weak skits on strong De La Soul albums), but for a fast exercise it seemed worth it.

From the results I sorted my 2471 total albums from highest score to lowest and got this interesting top 30, presented to you in alphabetical order:

Al Green - Let's Stay Together
Arthur Alexander - The Greatest
Bettye LaVette - I've Got My Own Hell To Raise
Bill Withers - Just As I Am
Booker T. & The MG's - Melting Pot
Curtis Mayfield - Curtis
Dan Penn & Spooner Oldham - Moments From This Theatre
Donny Hathaway - Live
Gordon Lightfoot - Greatest Hits
Henry Mancini - The Pink Panther
Ian Tyson - And Stood There Amazed
Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros - Global A Go-Go
King Tubby - Dancehall Style Dub
Lee Dorsey - Yes We Can
Lee Fields & The Expressions - Faithful Man
Max Romeo & The Upsetters - War Ina Babylon
Max Romeo & Tribu Acustica - In This Time
Original Broadway Cast Company - The Book of Mormon
Otis Redding - Otis Blue
Pickering Pick - On Rocket Rapture
Ray Charles - The Genius of Ray Charles
Solomon Burke - Don't Give Up On Me
Solomon Burke - Rock 'N Soul
Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee - Sonny & Brownie
Stan Rogers - Northwest Passage
Tito Puente - Tambó
Tom Waits - Small Change
U Roy - Dread In A Babylon
Various Artists - Dave Godin's Deep Soul Treasures Vol 4
Various Artists - Dirty Laundry: The Soul Of Black Country

I could handle this as a "desert island" thirty. Care to guess which album actually scored the highest?

Keeping The Bow Safe from Bikes

Within seconds of locking my bicycle up to these bike-lockup-looking-things at The Bow Building in downtown Calgary, Garda Security was there to make sure I didn't.

Their suggestion was to lock it up to one of the nearby newly planted trees.

No problem with legitimate authority doing their job and applying tha same rules to EVERYONE equally. I do however have a problem with pretencious arseholes. ;-)

#NHL Lockout is the Fans' Fault

Everyone is picking their side with the latest NHL Lockout.

"I blame the millionaire players"
"I blame the billionaire owners and/or Gary Bettman"
"I blame all of them!"

You're all wrong, and here's why.

The NHL Lockout is your fault. You. The diehard fan who will undoubtably come running back to the NHL with open arms (and open wallet) once they hit the ice again. You're the reason the NHL and the NHLPA risks missing games and cancelling seasons, because they know you're desperate enough to come back and forgive them. You did it in 1994/95 and you did it in 2004/05. You are being counted on to do it again. You are that predictable.

Hell, so was I.

But, to steal from another sport, three strikes and you're out. Goodbye NHL. I refuse to be the problem. The NHL isn't the only hockey game in town.

Soul Music Sunday

About 20 months ago my wife and I decided to sell our soulless McHouse in the 'burbs and move back into an inner city apartment half the size. One of our goals (which we achieved, we think) was to move into a place that felt like it sounded like this song by the El Michels Affair:
