I am planning an adventure that takes place in the Sky World and have a question: Does the Sun (Yelm, etc) ride through the Sky World in his chariot, or does the Sun travel underneath the Sky Dome? (Or both, as these things sometimes do.) If he does ride through the Sky World, then what events might happen along the way? The Sun Path isn't directly across the center of the Sky, so is there a time of year when the Sun does travel though the center of the Celestial City? Enlighten me please!

I think he travels exactly through the center of the Celestial City at the equinoxes.  As to ideas, well it's not an event but here's one idea.  Start with the assumption that the sky world is at least part way in the Other Side and so open to being experienced differently depending on magical and spiritual factors.  So sometimes you'll see a parade with Yelm smiling and waving from a chariot.  But for an alternative that gives him more opportunity to do stuff, imagine the chariot as a figurative description of a moving sky palace.  Maybe it looks like a chariot, or a palace, or the Death Star if it was made out of gold and on fire.  Inside of that, Yelm has a human-like body that holds court and does stuff.

Oooh, we are SO close (73 minutes) to finishing the RuneQuest Classic kickstarter with a full slate of supplements. It would be such a shame to end without funding Trollpak. If you have been thinking of supporting -- or increasing your support -- now is the time. :)

The RuneQuest Classic kickstarter is in it's final week. The more participation they get, the more of the old (30+ years old) out of print stuff they will bring back into print. If you have fond memories of the old RuneQuest game (second edition) and want to see it made available again then consider supporting this campaign.

I loved this game back in the '80s and it continued to be my favorite version even after newer editions were released. Now a fancy reprint is being kickstarted as part of the 50th anniversary of Glorantha, the setting used in the game. I can't resist!

My son and I have been playing cooperative Portal 2 recently, and last night he figured out a test chamber before I could even get oriented. And he is only 8 years old. I am so proud!  :)

I work for a central IT organization at a university, and am wondering about potential disruptive technology. What if...

A market place exists for intelligent adaptive processing where software at my university requests the processing of a transaction--with associated requirements as meta-data--and receives micro-second bids (like automated stock market transactions) to process the transaction.

Since this would operate on small batches--or even individual transactions--the system would automatically load balance between providers.

To participate in the market place a service provider must adhere to rigorous standards for security and reliability. This is enforced through a reputation system. Information on bad transactions is shared among customers so that providers have a major market driven interest in accuracy and resiliency. Worst case, a bad actor will only cause problems for the limited set of transactions it processed instead of the whole run.

What decade might this become a reality? The 2020s? I doubt very seriously much farther out than that.

Funded after the first week of the campaign? This has gone very differently from their failed first campaign. What a difference a few design changes make!

Edit: To be fair, the first campaign had a goal of almost twice what this one does. That said, they are gaining pledges at something like twice the "clip" of the first campaign. Milestones: 109k is the total raised in the first campaign; 150k was the goal of the first campaign.

Ah, here it is again - my favorite Christmas song. It still gives me chills and summons more tears than are comfortable to shed at work. This in spite of the humor and seasonal inversion that comes with listening to an Australian musical comedian.

And the purchase of it supports a good cause! (I hope watching it on YouTube does the same.)

Reminder! As in previous years, the proceeds from all November to January sales of ‘White Wine In The Sun’ go to the National Autistic Society.

Oops. I accidentally shared this post with the only group of people in the world absolutely guaranteed to already know about it - the G+ Glorantha community. <sigh> Anyway, the re-release of RQ2 is way cool, especially if you are an ancient role-player like myself. If that describes you as well, then consider backing! Even if it doesn't, you might want to check it out. RQ2 really is a cool game - fun, full of atmosphere and streamlined like a race car. (An occasionally cantankerous model like a Jaguar, maybe, but a race car all the same.)

A player in my Troll game recently asked: What is the explanation for why the Sun came to the Underworld from the Uz perspective? We have it from Solar and Storm POV, but what about Darkness? In other words, what lessons are Uz supposed to learn from the myth of being forced out of paradise?

I just signed up for some Esoterror goodness! I am not totally sold on the Gumshoe system, but I love this game's concept.
