Impressions of an afternoon
A wide belt of green Curves towards gentle hills The tramp of feet Perfume and perspiration A wide belt Separates soft curves Confident step following step Following the pace of music strapped to her forearm Past the older couple Slowly keeping pace with on...

Given the weekend that's in it, as they might say where I hail from, this poem from some time ago might be appropriate. As I mentioned, I've always been worried that it's really to the rhythm of "The Night Before Christmas." Discovery It seemed like a time ...

A question: where/when did you set the name of the document to be "Video Demo"?

Goldberg Variations Released
I've not been well recently and am not up to a full "Book Launch" for my Goldberg Variations. So I'm letting Anna and Ruth slip out into the world, doing their own thing as they have been for some years now. Over the time they'd drop by, uninvited like as ...

An evening in October
The evenings are quiet here A sense of the time that lies upon us For a corner has been turned And we are home Looking out through the windows The city lies before us Not that city of garish lights Of the bustle of the social set Rather the trees of the par...

An old new word, and a new skill to learn
I was thirteen and excited. At school I'd learned a new word. Not only what it meant. But the how and the why of its meaning. Calligraphy. Our English teacher had explained the roots of the two words that in combination made this new one. Beautiful writing....

IMAX Game of Thrones...and the snow was falling
It's a while since I've been to a movie theater, and longer yet since I had an "IMAX experience." Until last night, I mean. We've not been going to see movies in the theater for some time because one of us had trouble hearing the detail through all the SOUN...

O Holy Night...
My religious tradition, building on an earlier tradition, speaks of the night of Christmas as one in which "...a light shone in the darkness..." As always I am struck by how powerfully these images of light and dark resonate with our experience of the world...

Goldberg Variations
Well, I've gone and done it. Finally. It's taken time, years in fact, but I have my "variations on a theme of relationship" completed. Completed in that I've written them all. Now is the assembly of them into a coherent whole. Or as coherent a whole as a th...

There's no place like it...
Back in 2011, for the A-Z Challenge, I wrote a piece about  Home , and how it seems to move with me as I meander this world. I was reminded of this on flying back to Kansas City, MO late last week (and very early last Friday.) I've been here in this city by...

Paul Bunyan I am not
So, there was this tree... A small tree, mind you, but a tree nonetheless. And I, driving, pulling into a parking space at work in my car... And there was this tree... There isn't a tree anymore. Not upright, anyway. As I eased my foot from the gas pedal, i...

Story
Tagline
Transplanted Irishman - and writer of stories
Introduction
As the tagline says — a writer of stories.

I came to the SF Bay Area for the technology — my day job — and now find myself in the heart of the country in Kansas City, MO. In addition I am a writer of haiku, of short stories and, for the moment, novellas.

Maybe I'm working my way up to longer formats — from seventeen syllables to multi-pound in weight novel series. I can dream, can't I?
