Thousands of pets across the U.S. are awaiting adoption. #CleartheShelters is coming to animal shelters nationwide on Aug. 15. Might you give a four-legged homeless pet a forever home? Find a participating shelter near you --> http://nbcchi.com/bnWiadp
NBC and Telemundo will host Clear the Shelters on Aug. 15 when many local shelters in Chicago will waive adoption fees in hopes of finding homes for as many pets as possible.

Chromecast  -

Just ordered a Chromecast also.

Love my Google TV, but having a relatively portable screencast option for $35 is just too good to pass up.  Hopefully the Jellybean update comes to Google TV soon or it will, I think, spell the end of the platform.
Chromecast Google at its breakfast this morning announced Chromecast, bringing the Chrome OS to your TV. Plugs into your TV, powered by USB, and brings you all your favorite Google content. Born from the ashes of the Nexus Q, Chromecast is an HDMI dongle just a couple inches long. It connects, as you'd expect, to your Android phone.

+Michael Beatty That's an interesting question, from the chrome browser I'm not sure they can (the functionality seems to be in the browser itself, not the site page). On android a Dev needs to add the code for this feature, and it's likely repeat offenders like Hulu won't do it.

I'm part of a group looking into some of the ways both students and teachers may be using smart watches for learning (both inside and outside the classroom).  What are some of the things, as a student or teacher, you already use your watch for? (Note that I am only looking for ways you currently do use your watch, not things that you wish it could do). What apps are you using to do these things?

Apart from these questions, do any of you use it heavily for parts of your work that you think might have applications for students learning about that job/field? What apps?

I should note too that I'm primarily interested in things at the college level, though any information is helpful too.

Chromecast  -

So even though I ordered a Chromecast on Google Play, I went to Best Buy to get one in my hands today.  (I'll be refusing the UPS delivery of the other to get my refund on that).

I can confirm that Hulu will play on Chromecast, but is so laggy that it wouldn't be a useful solution at all (the cast option for Chrome must render the video and audio on the computer and send it to the Chromecast, meaning the audio and video do not sync when it plays back from the TV).  The video is so choppy it moves as a series of still images while the audio plays smoothly.  It seems it would be possible for Hulu to optimize this, however, since it seems Netflix does the same thing (though Netflix plays loud and clear in high quality despite needing a constant connection with the computer to do so).

I will say that YouTube and Netflix work very well on the TV.  Everything is loud and clear, and well synced up.  It does take a few seconds to get the video there, but nothing too extreme.
