Is it actually possible that Rush Limbaugh is so ignorant that he doesn't know how hormonal birth control works? The part of his quote where he calls Sandra Fluke a slut made the news, but it's what he said beforehand that actually blows my mind:

"Apparently, four out of every ten co-eds are having so much sex that it's hard to make ends meet if they have to pay for their own contraception, Fluke's research shows."

He actually seems to think that the frequency of sex has an effect on the on the cost of hormonal birth control. He's an adult - and has been for decades. Does he really not know how hormonal birth control work? Do conservatives in general not understand how birth control works?

Please tell me no.

Rachel goes into this in more detail (with some other conservatives who also seem less than knowledgable): presents... The Rachel Maddow Show. MSN Home; |; Mail; |; Sign Out · · Advertise | AdChoices. © 2012 · About us · Contact · Help · Site map · Careers · Terms &am...

No, I don't think he believes that, but other people probably believe it. I am somehow more disturbed by the fact that he is saying things knowing they are wrong just to fire up people.
He is man, why should he care about and how could it be different from condoms?
Never attribute to Rush Limbaugh's stupidity what is adequately explained by Rush Limbaugh's malice.
I'm not sure I understand the context (or why we seem to be amazed that US radio/tv people are morons), +Kevin Lyda -- but if I were to be in a promiscuous sexual environment, I would definitely worry about STD as much or more than pregnancy. So yes, frequency of free sexual relations is ~linear to the cost of contraception. The link from +Roland Mieslinger doesn't speak of hormonal contraception, so I must ask: did he actually say 'the pill' or 'contraception'?
+Pim van Pelt - if you watch the video, rachel points out that the issue is about prescription birth control, i.e. things like the pill. That's why Sandra Fluke went to congress to testify
OK so I watched the whole poo-hah. From Limbaugh's website:
"""My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir. I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices."""

It seems that he knows he fucked up. And yes, I think he has no clue how birth control works considering he said "have you tried having less sex". Oh the idiocy :)
