Over the course of my career I have spent a great deal of time coaching and mentoring young professionals. Now as a University Professor, I am doing much of the same thing but in a slightly different environment. However, there is one thing that both the business world and academia have in common; the need for every individual to have a Personal Mission Statement that aligns with his/her Core Principles and Values. With the start of a new year, I felt it was time to review my Personal Mission Statement and update it to reflect not just the man I am, but the man I hope to become as I move into the next stage of my career and my life.

It's not quite morning yet, but people are finally beginning to wake up. Thankfully, 2016 is just two short years away, and maybe, just maybe, we can get this great nation of ours back on track toward liberty, opportunity, responsibility, and prosperity.

On November 16, 2013, the University of Phoenix San Diego Campus held the Fall 2013 Commencement Ceremonies. During the morning and afternoon ceremonies, nearly 900 students received their Associates, Bachelors, or Masters Degree, and 2 very special individuals received their Doctoral Degrees. In addition to the Graduating Students, there are awards for the Distinguished Faculty of the Year. Out of over 500 active faculty, 7 Faculty (one from each college) are selected by the students for this honor. For 2013, I was very honored to receive the award as the 2013 Distinguished Faculty of the Year for the College of Humanities and Sciences. Just another reason why I am so PROUD to be a PHOENIX!

I knew Barnes and Noble was struggling, I just didn't know the depth of the problems. I find this really sad because I love shopping at B&N for everything from pleasure reading to textbooks. Hopefully, the online version of the company will hang in there. I'd hate to have to spend all my money with Amazon.

If only we could get our President and Congress to stop thinking that the American people are complete buffoons that needs a Big-Government program from cradle to grave. Americans have been making themselves wealthy for 3 Centuries and we can continue to do it if our "Leaders" would get out of the way.

Another day, another step toward Tyranny by the Obama Administration and Progressive Liberals in Congress. How much more will the American People take before we heed the words of the Founders.

So, I've been really busy.  Working on my Doctorate (Writing my dissertation now), teaching at the University of Phoenix, acting as Chairman for the Historic Preservation Commission for the City of La Quinta, and getting involved in the problems (economic, environmental, and social) at the Salton Sea. My partner (Tamara Kozma) has also been busy teaching and working on her MBA in Sustainable Development.  Because she is so close to completion, we are re-branding our companies to reflect her efforts and successes.

There has been something bothering me for the past week and I couldn't quite put my finger on it until today. In President O'Bummer's 2nd Inaugural address, he said all the nice things we expect. He invoked God, The Declaration, referred to the Constitution, and laid out his (ultra-liberal) agenda for the next four years. But what bothered me the most, was a complete lack of understanding of the moral absolutes that the founding principles of this nation are based upon.

So the question I have today for my Google friends is.... If you have no moral center (moral relativism), and if you have no understanding of the founding principles of this nation, then how do lead the people and preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution?

Several times recently, I've made post about how the high taxes in California (Thank you Liberals), combined with the excessive regulations (Thank you again Liberals) will send businesses, small and large out of the State. This combination further reduces the number of jobs, increasing the number of people on Government Assistance. Despite the higher tax rate, tax revenue is ultimately going to decline severely, and California will be bankrupt (morally and financially).

Here is just another example of a talented job creator (hundreds of people have jobs because of the efforts of one man), who has passed on investing in new businesses in California (he was thinking about buying the San Diego Padres, but not now), and has lived in California his whole life. But now, Phil Mickelson is thinking of leaving California, or retiring from Golf, or never playing professional golf in California again, BECAUSE HIS TAX RATE IS 62-63%. So again Liberals, I ask you.. What are you going to do when there are no jobs, no job creators, no artists, no professional sports teams, no actors, and no industry supporting anyone? Where is your tax revenue going to come from to support a State where EVERYONE is on the public handout?

Gov. "Moonbeam" Jerry Brown, the Liberal California Legislature, and Public Employee Unions once again prove that they haven't got a clue how hard-working people think.  The more the liberals raise taxes, the more hard-working, tax-paying residents, small-businesses, and corporations flee the State.  What are Jerry, the Liberals, and Unions going to do when there is no one left to pay taxes and you have a State full of people with their hands out to the Government for their paychecks, housing, food stamps, medical treatment, transportation, and all the other things that liberals like to call "rights?"

Once again, the City of Lancaster, CA (my hometown) is being recognized for their efforts in Smart Growth and Sustainable Development.  "The BLVD Transformation Project" is an excellent example of a public/private partnership that meets all 3 goals of the Triple Bottom Line: Fiscal Responsibility; Social Responsibility, and Environmental Responsibility.  Well done Lancaster, VERY WELL DONE!
