On Saturday, November 16, Michigan State University Women in Computing will be hosting a Technology Workshop for high school girls. The day will consist of two portions: learning the tools to design and create websites and working with basic programming concepts using Scratch. We'll send students home with the ability to make their own website or blog and the knowledge of how to find more resources for web design & Scratch.

We think it is so important to get young women interested in engineering (especially computer science!) and we hope this will be a fun way to learn some cool skills related to technology and the Internet!

Here are the details:

Who: Any middle to high school age girl interested in computer science! Although this workshop is geared toward high school students, we also welcome younger students.

What: We'll teach you all about basic tools to design and create a website as well as basic programming concepts using Scratch. We'll also teach you about how awesome the field of Computer Science is.

When: Saturday, November 16 from 10AM - 2PM. We are asking students to please bring their own lunch.

Where: Room 3105 Engineering Building, Michigan State University. Parking is available in visitor lot 39 on this map.

This event is planned primarily for the students. If any parents would like to participate or stay and be involved, please let us know. We need to make sure we have enough machines for all the students who want to participate first. If parents are interested in a separate workshop for themselves, please indicate; we would love to include them more in the future!

Please invite any students you believe might be interested and have them RSVP on this form. If they are attending, please also ask them to bring the attached release waiver.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email the Technology Workshop coordinator, Caitlin McDonald (mcdon385@msu.edu) or one of our Women in Computing Presidents, Danielle Guir (guirdani@msu.edu) or Taylor Jones (jonest31@msu.edu).

Feel free to circulate widely!
