Did you guess it? The image shows CALET (CALorimetric Electron Telescope) a detector that will be flying to the ISS this year, designed by a Japanese-led international collaboration to identify cosmic electrons, nuclei and gamma-rays and to provide high-resolution measurements of their energy. Calibration tests are currently being completed on a replica of the instrument at CERN’s H8 beam line, read more: http://cern.ch/go/ww6T

Congratulations to Jean-Baptiste Lièvremont, the first to get the correct answer to Friday’s post.

The following is a comment I left on My Right Word blog http://myrightword.blogspot.co.il/2013/05/a-bowen-blooper.html

"You have caught Jeremy's mistakes, to be sure. But the four traditional    quarters are the Jewish, Christian, Armenian, and Muslim (not Arab) Quarters, at least since the 19th century.

So, I guess even an American Jew who makes aliyah to Israel and becomes  a citizen, who then lives and works in Israel - and even participates in the government! - can, even after decades of living and working in Israel, also make mistakes on the level of Jeremy Bowen.

You'll forgive me if I subsequently doubt the veracity of the claims to the  land of "Judea and Samaria" made by the Yesha."

After living there for 43 yrs, is it possible that Yedad could've missed the significance of the last 43 days? Especially the actions by the police and military in Jerusalem to restrain the Palestinians from accessing their holy sites in order for settlers - even a few Yesha council members - to stream in from the land that they've illegally Occupied in Palestine to trample on the Temple Mount.

(See the link below to read about the traditional names of the Jerusalem Quarters.)

This is re-post from last November. Actually, I tweeted this. This is a clarion call to a more "common sense" reality about the rockets vs. invasions in Gaza. In other words, though there may be rockets from Gaza, the IDF reprisals are always swift and immensely disproportionate.

Though some - look no further than @ForeignAffairs- are wont to mark the end of the BRIC's, the influence that they wield is still an enticing "commodity."

Looking for Christmas present ideas? Allow me to suggest either or both of these 2 books from my friend Ben White :) And I'll highlight the fact that his most recent one, "Palestinians in Israel: Segregation, Discrimination and Democracy" (with MK Haneen Zoabi foreword) has a Kindle edition http://amzn.to/TYlFnk (US) http://amzn.to/P6P9h1 (UK)
