Overall it was a different experience for a non-foodie...their menu changes all the time so this review applies to their dinner menu for March\April 2015. Their menu format seems interesting and it ensures each person has his\her own experience by mix\matching the food items. Keep in mind the portion sizes are not large...so if the visit is just to fuel up, I recommend staying on the Frontera side. It is all about the food and obviously not much about the building\decor itself. The dining area felt cold (I know winter Chicago) and perhaps it is because the place gets packed and it is very small and they try to put too many tables in a small place...so what you say to the person dining with you WILL be heard by others. Again, it is about the food, so let me just tell you that whatever items you decide to pick you will not be disappointed. If the menu features a dessert with coconut in it...GO FOR IT. It is delicious. The corn tamale, sopa Azteca, the mole de olla, and the coconut ice cream were all delicious...mix and match more than 15 items on the menu. Go crazy with the 7-course meal if you have quite an appetite. Finally, the staff was great, friendly and very knowledgeable. They took the time to explain the menu, they were clear about the portion sizes, and if you happen to forget to pair your meal with a glass of wine...no worries, they can accommodate. Don't be surprised if Mr. Bayless gets out and come and greets some of the customers (not all...just some).

Review of #ViejaCuba Hotel in Quito, Ecuador #Quito #Ecuador #Cuba
reviewed:
Vieja Cuba
La Niña, Quito, Ecuador
I can guarantee you that you will not find a hotel as great as this one.
The Awesome Part
- No room has the same style\size\decor. Each room is designed based on function and available space.
- We were assigned Room 15 and if you can get this room, I highly recommend it. It is spacious, well designed, and best of all...it has an upstairs floor just for sleeping (sort of a loft). The loft accommodates two mattresses (twin size).
- Room came with free breakfast and breakfast comes with the coolest people in the most cozy kitchen\dining area. Mari is the person who takes your order. She will do everything in her power so that your food is exactly as you expect it or better. After the first day, she remembered the next day the items we had our first time. That is customer service and she asked whether we wanted the same or different.
- The evening cook is Benito and he is a great one. We had a delicious pizza at the restaurant.
- The person who works upfront is very knowledgeable about the area and the good places to visit. Make sure you ask for a map and she will point out the spots to visit. They can also arrange for a taxi to come and get you.

The OK Part
It is not your usual hotel...so our room did not include: a fridge or microwave. It gets really cold in the morning (since it is Quito) and there is no heating in the room...so bundle up. Keep in mind I will trade those things for the coziness, friendliness and just the feeling as if you are staying with family\friends any time of the day

RECOMMENDATION
Book it!

It was a nice place to try and I enjoyed the staff's hospitality; from the moment we walked into the restaurant everyone was very attentive. If you are looking for a quick way to eat because you got some other commitments afterwards, I highly recommend stopping by before 5PM. The place appears to get very busy after 5pm and parking seems to be a problem after such time. Before 5pm, parking is a breeze and the place doesn't appear to be too busy. I thought it was a bit pricey but the food was great. Cynthia, our waitress, was great and attentive. Staff stopped by to check on how our meal tasted and how well it was cooked. I got the NY Steak and my wife got the bistro steak sandwich. Out of the two, I would recommend the bistro steak sandwich instead. Pair it with one of their wines (they have an extensive list of wines from around the world, which is great).

This restaurant is a great experience...and it all starts with a great appetizer. The appetizer is on the house and it consists of one or two tortillas and a creamy soup (guizo). It is easy to get into the idea that one can have such an appetizer as the main dish but the service staff recommends against it. They don't recommend it because the taste of the appetizer in a large quantity is not the best. Think of it a sugar...a bit of sugar is good. A lot of sugar at once and the taste changes. The menu offers a lot of options and the items are always made with fresh ingredients. Some tips to help so that you have a great experience: - This is a cash only establishment but they do have an ATM on site - The restaurant is always busy so it is best to get there really early (check out their website for hours). Since it is always busy and they have tried to maximize the space, I don't recommend group dining - Parking is very limited and they do have a parking lot on the corner of Laflin & 18th but it is very small and it fills up really quick. There is no charge but tipping is recommended.

I found out about Bien Trucha via Check Please and since it was featured I have wanted to go check it out. It didn't disappoint with regards to the food. We went for lunch. Just a couple of observations: HOW IT WORKS - Regardless of what main dish one asks for, they bring the food out one dish at a time. My recommendation would be to grab dishes that can be passed around; otherwise, one will finish eating one's food while the other stares. - Everything is a-la-carte. - For the time of day we went, there was no waiting time to sit outside. - Presentation and taste of the food is great. Fresh ingredients and everything well cooked. - It seems like McDonalds is more accommodating than Bien Trucha. We couldn't get for the taco sauce to be served on the side instead and I wouldn't even try to make a request to get both dishes sent out at the same time.

Visited 6/9/14...the service was very super slow. Everything on the menu is sort of a la carte \ individual menu items. This place had great music, great decor, tables look authentic made out of leather and wood (old fashion). I ordered some Ropa Vieja and I highly recommend it. Once the food was ordered, it came out really quick. Plates appear to be meant for sharing with all guests at the table since servings are very generous. From what I could see, the customer could take a sharpie and write anywhere on the restaurant. I did not try it but it did seem that was an option.

This was my very first new car I ever bought. From ads and from visiting other dealers, one gets the impression the sales people will be pushy and pressing to make decisions. I happen to deal with Mr. Bob and he was very professional and when I mentioned the fact I was comparing other vehicles (e.g. the Juke) to the Mini Cooper and that I wanted to get my own car appraised for trade in...he was very helpful in explaining how the process worked without mentioning anything negative about the other car models I was interested in. The entire process was very easy to follow and it didn't take very long for everything to be ready (with license plates and registration). I asked about souvenir items and Mr. Bob was more than willing to ask the manager whether my wife and I could grab something from the souvenir shop. He assisted us EVEN through that process. Finally, if you want to know the ins and outs of your new car, Mr. Bob will explain just about everything if you are not too eager to start driving your new car. Kudos.
