I took on an assignment to photograph scenes from the Roosevelt Park Plaza opening in Camden, NJ on Flag day June, 14th 2012. The park is now in the place of the Parkade building built in the mid-1950's. The Parkade building was an attempt to keep the downtown business district viable with it's 1000 parking spaces. Unfortunately it turned out to be a failure because the up and coming Cherry Hill mall would have free parking. Over the years the building had been used by city and county agencies as well as businesses. During it's last days it was inhabited by the homeless and pieces of it were falling apart. There was also the issue of asbestos. In order to proceed with the park construction the earth had to be removed and replaced to get rid of asbestos remnants. Where once the eyesore that was the Parkade building that stood and blocked the view of city hall, is now an open green space where the sun can shine through.
