Subgrid Positioning allows a lot of possibilities. We all want lots of control over our desktop, but using big grids to carefully layout widgets makes icons awkward, and grid less launchers are often unwieldy. Subgrid allows much greater control without the negatives. Along with the toggle for widget padding, there are a lot of new possibilities to layout widgets.

Nova Launcher has evolved considerably since I started it in November of 2011. I've mostly avoided removing settings or making changes that conflict with previously possible configurations. However this adds a level of complexity to updates and there have been some features that were barely used since their introduction that need pruning. I don't believe many users will object to these changes, but I do apologize to those that don't like the changes.
• Tab configuration is a bit stricter. Previously it was possible to remove the All Apps tabs (in which case newly installed Apps would be inaccessible) or add multiple All Apps or Widgets tabs (duplicating content). Now one and only one All Apps tab is required, and zero or one Widgets tab can be used. These tabs can be renamed and recolored. Unlimited App Group tabs can be added as always.
• All Apps tab dropdown menu no longer includes filters for New/Downloaded
• The dropdown menu indicator has been removed from the tabs, though the menu still exists (with some modification)
• Persistent Search Bar is either enabled or disabled, the landscape only option has been removed
• Persistent Search Bar style is consistent between landscape and portrait
• Icons are now centered vertically in their cells, rather than being top aligned
• Phone landscape mode fills available space horizontally, rather than reserving space for the search bar/dock even if those elements were hidden.
• Honeycomb style search bar no longer includes the menu button (which was not authentic to honeycomb anyway)

Love to see this getting updated.
For me on galaxy s4 is slow, laggy and glitches likes there is no tomorrow. 😮
Yayyy 😆a welcomed update! From a loyal nova user...
"Vertical drawer scrolls under transparent navbar" Yay! :-)
i can also confirm that the tabs in the drawer do not work.
Tabs not working seems to be tied to the Isolate Tabs setting. I'll have it fixed for beta2.
Thanks for update! ;)

One bug found...
Tabs in drawer do not work, if "tab isolation" is activated.
+Kevin Barry will you being fixing the aggressive desktop in these next updates? As there is many of us with it not working.
And Nova Launcher has started a new journey again😁😁
+Kevin Barry fantastic work boy. Can you add more gestures in next version? Gestures such as pinch in/out with tree fingers
I only have lags while positioning icons on the homescreen, but I think it's because of the subgrid positioning
Nice! I love the widget padding disable feature as well as the sub grid positioning!

Please continue to update!
Please add the ability to utilise icon pack fonts/theme colours. It's the only thing I miss.
I would love to have to OK Google listening feature.
For me on my Note 3 it crashes immediately.  Thanks for the hard work.  Nova has been my favorite launcher for a while now.
Thank you so much for all of these updates, particularily the sub-grid placement update!
Love it! I just miss app drawer ordered by installation time.
+Denis Pomortsev I have the same problem, it becomes unresponsive for me and gets stuck in either apps or widgets then randomly will switch to the one I was trying to select.
Omg thanks for the update :) it still lives :p yeahhh…
I am not sure if someone has mentioned this yet or if im completely not seeing the option for this but it seems like I can't add or remove homescreens now when I go to novasettings>desktop>home screens
+Kevin Barry setting a folder label color or shadow deleted all my widgets, folder and shortcuts. Except dock ones.
+Kevin Barry. I have only played with the new update briefly. My question for you is it now possible, with the sub grid, to place a widget half on one page and half on the next (or any fraction)?
:O AN UPDATE?! Hooray! I love it! removes all the padding
I'm pumped that this has finally been updated buuuuut all my apps in my drawer have disappeared lol helppp
May be a dumb question but how do you enable/adjust the sub grid?
+Rich Hutchinson the sub grid is already active after the update. If you look at how you normally position icons, in a 1x1 square this is how it changed. You see the + grid on the screen when positioning icons , now instead of keeping in that square you can put an icon off the square. To make more sense , imaging a square. Before icons sit inside the square. Now you can set an icon on the outter lines of the square.
how does it detect the calendar icons? I'm a Icon designer and I would like to know how to implement that feature on my sets :)
Nevermind reboot fixed it. +Jonathon Steele it's already enabled by default, just drop apps midway between grid spots
+Kevin Barry great, been wanting folder colors for a long time. Only thing missing for me is the ability set different colours for individual folders and also if the folder preview would match the folder background colour. Also some new animation for scrolling would be welcomed for prime users and also animations for when opening a folder. Right now the folder just opens, no animation or anything and it just doesn't look nice.. Lol anyways 1 thing at a time. Great new update, still some bugs obviously why it's a beta. Only bugs I have encountered so far is issues when trying to switch between the app tab and widgets tab and sometimes when I'm trying to switch it will fc
+Kevin Barry My Drawer Pages don't switch from one to the other unless I long press the home button to pull up the task manager, then close the task manager. Even then it doesn't always work and sometimes Nova Launcher crashes.
Put blur option for drawer background. It would be awesooome. Jonathan out :)
+Kevin Barry Loving Disable Padding feature. On N4 widgets are touching the side of the screen- looks great. On N7 (2013) there's still, maybe 5 or 10 px.
I love the new update but the tabs in drawer is not functioning well. :(
Love the new calendar feature. (Already had a icon set from kovdev) Also the sliders for the colors pickers are a huge improvement since it was impossible to match drawer, and folder background opacity other than by eye. I would love to see an option to turn off the open folder shadow however if its possible. Keep up the good work. Nova has been my go to launcher since it was in beta.
Will it be possible to have the folder custom color of choice on the background of the folder? Not when it's opened, but as the actual folder background?. ..☺
+Dei Granato Yes I as well think it would be nice to be able to change color per folder like the drawer tabs can be now. It would be another good way to differentiate each folder.
Another vote for matching "closed folder" color. So far no issues on N5 or N7, nice update!
What about art support? can't seem to install it.
+Kevin Barry ..Need option to change Icon and Text Size, both at home screen and app drawer
Seems slightly less fluid than previous version on my THL T11 MTK octa (4.2.2)  and, as previous version, crashes when performing a (very) fast scroll while looking for a replacement icon on the desktop (e.g, with the glasklart theme)
+Kevin Barry a friend of mine would like to be part of beta, are invites all being offered?
+Dei Granato please have your friend join this community. The link to opt in for beta is listed above as well as it should be listed in the community drop down.
Subgrid positioning didn't seem to be working on my Nexus 7 (2012) but works fine on my Nexus 5. Any ideas?
Love how you can flick icons and widgets off the homescreen to delete, instead of drag and drop...
+Aman Dahiya I've never done that before. .. do I just send her the link for the apk?
+Kevin Barry Can you add a way to disable folders on the homescreens? Every time i want to  place two icons very close to each other, I end up with a folder and a broken heart :(
The first couple of updates were great but the last 2 or 3 seem to be causing my phone to be really laggy and buggy.
