When text becomes data it opens up a phenomenal amount of possibility for insight and creative exploration. The problem is that most Natural Language Processing

I haven't read it yet, but I enjoyed 1Q84 - so I plan to give it a read.
I wanted to find out why a beautiful girl like her would want to go out with a weird character like Kitaru. I’ve always been a little shy around new people, but I never lack curiosity.

Ok, points taken. I will endeavor to make my site as friendly as possible.
Accessing government data from the source is frustrating. If you've done it, or at least tried to, you know the pain that is oddly formatted files, search that doesn't work, and annotation that tells you nothing about the data in front of you. The most frustrating part of the process is knowing ...

Very cool personal use of all that available data.
I defined walking distance as ~5 blocks, but ~10 blocks is still a pretty sane distance. I want to be close to a grocery store and close to a MAX or Streetcar stop. Unfortunately, none of the real estate applications I tried had a feature like this so I decided to create what I needed using open ...

Re-sharing because it is important - even if it doesn't apply directly to me.

Thank you +Amy Vernon for sharing this. It is really important to read. This ALL needs to change. If you see it, call that garbage on the carpet.

I'd just like to add that not all 'women in tech' are coders. I was a network engineer for over a decade. I currently work in MarTech. By today's definition I "don't qualify" as tech but I'm every bit affected and infuriated by what is going on in this industry.

Article isn't bad, but some of the quotes he solicited from "experts" are full on bullshit. Statistics and order are a male thing? Are you kidding me? And not everything can be measured? Of course it can, measurement is an arbitrary process we invented to explain the world. We can literally invent any measurement rules we want to measure anything we desire. Or are we now suggesting that the reviews given on Amazon for products are done in some mystical and absolute measurement system? I thought not.
Unquantifiable arenas like history and the arts are receding from public life, replaced by technology and statistics.
